Position Title: YMCA Childcare Director Position: Salaried, Exempt
Date: March 2025
Objective: To support and contribute to general goals of the Algona Family YMCA through the management of the Preschool and School age Childcare Program under the supervision of the Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Preferred Bachelor’s degree in related field or combination of equivalent training and experience.
2. One or two years related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of child care programs.
3. Must be 21 years of age.
4. Completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
5. Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards and completion of YMCA program specific certifications.
Position requires employee to observe/evaluate facility and groups of participants/staff by sight and sound. Must be able to easily move through all program areas and effectively communicate and actively interact with customers. Must be able to perform physical functions necessary to program supervision, including but not limited to squatting, bending, kneeling and actively participating in physical activities of children.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Plan, supervise and implement the program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA Schoolage Childcare Program
· Direct all staff (paid and volunteer).
· Assist in developing and delivery of programming.
· Coordinate with school personnel on arrival, departures, and absences.
· Maintain accurate documentation of attendance and emergency information on each child.
· Collect program fees, issue receipts, keep fees current, issue overdue notices, and maintain an up-to-date balance of each child.
· Promote self-esteem for each child in your care every day.
· Plan, coordinate and deliver children’s activities.
· Provide needed guidance of participants (Discipline procedures).
· Preserve quality of supplies, equipment and materials.
· Maintain current inventory of supplies.
· Communicate with supervisor on program needs. (craft supplies, snacks, first aid)
· Attend all staff meetings and training workshops as directed by supervisor.
· Know and enforce rules in the parent handbook.
· See that all staff and children abide by school rules and regulations.
· Abide by all rules in the Schoolage Childcare Handbook.
· Maintain appearance and environment of the area used.
· Maintain a professional attitude, neat appearance and confidentiality.
· Maintain effective communication with parents.
· Promote the YMCA and YMCA Childcare at open houses, fairs, etc. as needed.
· Maintain certificate in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, YMCA Childcare, etc. as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
The performance of this position may be judged by:
· The degree to which there is growth in numbers of attendance and participants.
· Good management of facilities, equipment, personnel, finances, records, and reports.
· Development and retention of a favorable community feeling towards the YMCA, Schoolage Childcare Program.
· Positive feedback from parents and school staff.
