Primary Purpose:
Organize and oversee the district police officers in providing a safe environment for students and district personnel. Maintain and enforce municipal, county, and state laws and ordinances as well as district policies, directives, and standards.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- College degree & clear and valid Texas driver’s license
- Master peace officer proficiency, Crime Prevention Specialist, and Instructor Proficiency/Advanced certifications issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement
- School Based Law Enforcement Proficiency Certificate
- Firearms Instructor Proficiency (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of criminal investigations, police report writing, and criminal law
- Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, administrators and others from various socio-economic levels, cultures, and ethnic backgrounds
- Ability to write and enter data into the police department computer systems including NCIC/TCIC, TLETS, AFIS, and compile required reports for department such as Racial Profiling, Evidence custody logs and Money transfer logs.
- Training and ability to subdue offenders, including use of firearms and handcuffs
- Bondable as required by Texas Education Code §37.081(h)
- Strong public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage personnel & flexible for scheduling purposes required
Experience:
- Fifteen (15) or more consecutive years as a full-time paid peace officer
- Prior supervisory, management experience as a school district police supervisor
- Experience with interagency operations and training such as Homeland Security, City, County
- Experience in working with courts of jurisdiction and district attorneys (TX Code of Criminal Procedure)
- Working knowledge of Texas Family Code, Penal Code, Transportation Code
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Department Management
- Coordinate police services as needed.
- Assist in the development of police prevention programs for schools.
Law Enforcement
- Enforce all general and criminal laws.
- Review police reports, logs, and investigative case reports.
- Coordinate investigations of any criminal act committed against Alief ISD.
- Coordinate investigations of any criminal act committed against any student, teacher or other district personnel while on Alief ISD property or while performing duties.
- Perform all duties of a licensed peace officer.
- Work with local law enforcement agencies to solve common problems.
- Serve as the liaison with the various courts.
- Work cooperatively with other staff to develop and implement proactive security programs, gang management plans, and other safety programs.
Safety
- Provide for security and traffic control at athletic events, school closings or openings, or at any other time.
- Provide protection to or escort district personnel as needed.
- Operate all equipment, including firearms, according to established safety procedures.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Personnel Management
- Supervise and evaluate Alief ISD police officers.
- Assign duties to officers and staff based upon priority and scheduling of district-wide activities.
Administration
- Serve as the officer in charge of the department when the Chief of Police is out of the district.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and documents required, including affidavits for arrest, incident reports, and activity reports.
- Oversee management of the property room for storage of weapons, contraband, and other items confiscated on district property.
- Coordinate vehicles and equipment maintenance and repair.
Professional Development
- Oversee the in-service training of Alief ISD officers.
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise and evaluate assigned police department employees.
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Professional Supervisor Personnel.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: District vehicle, firearm, handcuffs, alarm system, security equipment, two-way radio, alarm system and other security equipment, fire extinguisher, and standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing
Motion: Strenuous walking and climbing; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; frequent driving
Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (15 - 44 pounds)
Environment: Work inside and outside (moderate exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather). Frequent districtwide travel
Other: Specific hearing and visual requirements. May be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions, including violent and armed confrontations. Ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; prolonged hours; on call 24 hours a day.

Salary is based on working 200 days. Working less days is less salary.
