Primary Purpose:
Direct and manage the district’s curriculum, instruction, & school leadership department with a secondary focus. To supervise and evaluate program goals and objectives of programs designed to meet the needs of all Alief students.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Master’s degree with mid-management/principal certification preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of curriculum and instructional programs
- Ability to interpret data and evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
- Ability to manage budget and personnel
- Ability to implement policy and procedures
- Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
- Five (5) years’ of administrative experience
- Experience as a principal of a secondary campus preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional and Program Management
- Work with all programs within Secondary Curriculum, Instruction, and School Leadership; Advanced Academics; and CTE to help them develop their group goals and provide leadership to help them meet their stated goals.
- Collaborate with curriculum specialists, principals, teachers, and other instructional staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on a systematic review and analysis.
- Actively support and monitor the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and campus performance objectives (academic excellence indicators) and provide progress monitoring updates.
- Collaborate with the staff development department on programs and activities that support instructional programs. Incorporate input from teachers and principals and ensure programs and activities are consistent with the district’s mission.
- Serve on the district, regional, and state level instructional committees.
- Serve as a member of the district IMA Textbook Committee.
- Provide curriculum and instructional support to at-risk campuses.
- Manage the instructional calendar to ensure that campus productivity is not affected by instructional meetings.
- Provide training for administrators and leadership teams as needed.
Policy, Reports, and Law
- Ensure compliance with TEKS and all other state or federal requirements in all areas of the Instruction Department.
- Supervise the preparation of district, state, and federal reports that relate to secondary content curriculum.
- Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in curriculum and instruction area.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.
Budget
- Assist with the development and administration of the curriculum and instruction budget based on documented program needs.
- Ensure that operations are cost effective, and funds are managed prudently.
Personnel Management
- Supervise and evaluate the Director of Advanced Academics and Director of CTE.
- Supervise and evaluate the Secondary Content Coordinators.
- Assist with preparing, reviewing, and revising job descriptions in curriculum and instruction department.
- Select, train, evaluate, and supervise staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
Communication
- Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community members.
- Oversee the decisions for content shared with Principals through various communication methods.
Community Relations
- Participate in Higher Education and Community Partnerships that support Alief’s focus on college and career readiness and other strategic plan goals.
- Articulate the district’s mission, instructional philosophy, and curriculum implementation strategies to the community and solicit its support in realizing district’s mission.
- Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
- Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and termination of instructional directors, supervisors and support staff in the curriculum and instruction department.
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Professional Supervisor Personnel.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head
Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; possible district wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

2024-2025 Salary Range Min. $122,049 Mid. $154,272 Max. $163,543 (Based on previous experience)
2025-2026 Salary schedule with 3% of midpoint increase approved by the Board. Salary schedule soon to be released.
