Job Summary
The Director of Staff Education develops and oversees hospital-wide training and education programs including clinical education and facilitating CEUs from
accrediting bodies for various professional disciplines. The Director’s primary responsibility is the professional development of clinical staff through
orientation and diverse educational programs. The Director is a dynamic and enthusiastic educator who is adept at working with staff at all levels of an
inpatient behavioral health facility. Staff development at Bournewood is a collaborative effort and the Director guides hospital leadership and staff to meet
the goal of having Bournewood be trauma-informed and person-centered. The Director is expected to support this goal through education and training.
Essential Job Functions
In-service Education Series
- Responsible for planning and collaborating at least annually with clinical department heads and developing and implementing an annual training curriculum.
- Maintains documentation of educational descriptions and attendance.
- Provides all required documentation for filing in the individual personnel files.
- Facilitates CEU credit for all licensed professionals.
- Focuses the planning and delivery of training to identified areas of competency.
- Trends compliance with CPI training, CPR attendance and other identified priority educational activities and reports to managers staff delinquency in attendance or need to be scheduled to attend.
- Participates in implementation of best practices including but not limited to 6 Core Strategy.
Professional Nurse Education
- Collaborates with the Chief Nursing Officer in planning and implementing ongoing in-services of relating to nursing practice for all nurses with a goal of meeting all regulatory agency requirements.
- Arranges and provides other professional nurse in-service programs.
- Participates in implementation of new clinical systems.
- Coordinates training series for new clinical staff.
Orientation
- Works in collaboration with Human Resources in the design, revision and delivery of the Hospital ‘s Orientation Program to meet accreditation standards.
- Provides HR with all required documentation for filing in the individual personnel files.
Supervision
- Provides individual supervision to RNs and MHCs by appointment.
- Supervises the Staff Education Coordinator.
Other
- Facilitates other education programs and seminars as requested.
- Facilitates non-medical student internships/clinical rotations with colleges and universities

Qualifications
Education: Bachelors degree in nursing required. Masters degree in nursing or education preferred.
Certification/Licenses: Registered Nurse required.
Experience:
• At least one-year related educational experience
• At least 5 years experience in an inpatient behavioral health facility
• At least one year of experience in nursing or education leadership
• Experience/knowledge of trauma-informed care best practices preferred
