Intake Coordinator
Intake Coordinator - Bournewood Hospital
Bournewood Health Systems is seeking an intake coordinator with strong organizational and communication skills who will be responsible for providing support to the Director of Admissions by completing all triage, assessment and intake responsibilities.

Responsibilities:
- Serve as the initial point of contact for individuals seeking inpatient or partial hospital behavioral health services.
- Gather and document essential patient demographic, insurance, and referral information.
- Coordinate with clinical staff to determine bed/space availability and admission eligibility.
- Facilitate the completion of necessary intake paperwork.
- Respond promptly to inquiries from patients, families, and referring providers regarding the intake and admission process.
- Maintain professional and compassionate communication with patients in distress or crisis situations.
- Liaise between referring agencies, hospitals, and internal clinical teams to ensure a seamless intake process.
- Accurately input patient data into the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Verify insurance eligibility and coordinate authorization for inpatient services with the billing department.
- Maintain organized records of all intake documentation and referrals.
- Schedule and confirm inpatient admissions based on bed availability and through shared schedule for PHP intakes.
- Communicate admission details to referrals sources, patients, families, and relevant hospital departments as needed.
- Coordinate transportation arrangements when necessary.
- Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and hospital policies regarding patient confidentiality.
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal guidelines related to behavioral health admissions.

Qualifications
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services field. Master’s degree in behaviorial health preferred.
- At least one year experience in mental health field or in performing intakes and admissions preferred
Essential Competencies:
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to assess a client’s level of care needs through conversation with referral source
- Understanding of mental illness, common diagnoses and behaviors
- Ability to maintain a calm and respectful demeanor when handling difficult people or situations
