What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coordinator of Midwifery Services position at Alivio Medical Center?
The Coordinator of Midwifery plans, organizes and directs the activities of the Midwifery Program, assuming full responsibility for supervision, training and evaluation of other provider, program development and evaluation, and inter-department liaison.
In this specific role, the coordinator will be responsible for managing a caseload to assure appropriate clinical coverage, creating and executing a plan to reduce the CNM caseload to a level appropriate for the number of CNMs on staff.
Educated in the two disciplines of nursing and midwifery, possesses evidence of certification according to the requirements of the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB). Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Supports the goals and philosophy of Alivio Medical Center
- Selects, orients, directs, evaluates and disciplines other CNM’s
- Plans staffing for coverage of assigned in-patients and out-patients areas
- Assumes 24-hour accountability and responsibility for the service
- Develops, implements, and maintains compliance with policies, procedures and guidelines for the Nurse-Midwifery practice. Directs periodic review of policies, procedures and guidelines
- Maintains compliance with AMCB and state requirements
- Promotes, facilitates and monitors quality of care through chart reviews, participation in state-wide peer review, utilization of quality management principals, monitoring of provider activities and productivity and all other activities.
- Prepares Nurse-midwifery service budget, encourages and monitors compliance according to funding source guidelines.
- Identifies individual CNM needs for professional growth and development and provides opportunities to meet those needs.
- Participates in short and long range planning for the service and medical center;
- Establishes and maintains productive working relationships with other personnel and departments;
- Serves as consultant to outside agencies regarding Nurse-Midwifery practice;
- Represents CNM staff in the affiliated hospital and coordinates CNM services with medicine, nursing, medical records, etc
- Meets regularly with Medical Director, Executive Director and other appropriate staff as part of the management team
- Performs clinical Nurse-Midwifery functions in clinic and hospital
- Maintains Midwifery practice statistics
- Performs other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in nursing, public health or the equivalent
- Successful completion of a program in Nurse Midwifery accredited by AMCB
- Board certified by AMCB.
- Licensed in the State of Illinois as a Certified Nurse Midwife
- 3-5 years clinical Nurse-Midwifery experience, required.
- Previous supervisory experience, preferred.
- Must be Bilingual - English/Spanish

COMPENSATION:
Base commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary range: $125,000 - $150,000
