Position Overview
The Intake Specialist serves as the first point of contact for individuals seeking behavioral health services and plays a critical role in assessing needs, gathering essential information, and facilitating access to appropriate care. This position involves conducting initial screenings and assessments, verifying eligibility, and ensuring timely coordination of services based on client needs and preferences.
The Intake Specialist works closely with clients, families, clinical staff, and community partners to support a smooth entry into care, promote engagement, and uphold a person-centered approach to treatment. This role is essential in ensuring individuals receive timely support and are connected to the appropriate resources to begin or continue their recovery journey.
We currently have opportunities at our Westland and Detroit locations. This position requires some weekend and evening availability.
Key Responsibilities
Intakes
- Reviews the referring party (DWIHN, MCCMH, Court, etc.) screening and completes a thorough assessment of the individual’s strengths, needs, abilities and preferences.
- Ensures the coordination and provision of intake functions, initial assessments, provision of emergency needs, required authorizations and releases, ORR, Grievance and Appeal and HIPAA notifications.
- Completes required documentation related to the Intake and Eligibility Process (e.g., Biopsychosocial, Consent to Treat, Release of Information), and other requested reports and documentation.
- Completes the ASAM Continuum for individuals referred for SUD services.
- Reviews written case records and seeks out relevant professional support to assure a thorough assessment of the individual’s strengths, needs, abilities and preferences.
- Makes intra-agency referrals for evaluations, consultation, and other services.
- Makes referrals to Case Manager to assist clients with emergency needs including shelter, clothing, and emergency physical or mental health needs.
- Follows approved policies and procedures of the agency to ensure that clients’ recipient and confidentiality rights are not violated.
Customer Service
- Welcomes and orients persons served to services and benefits available within the agency, as well as within the provider network.
- Respects the dignity, rights, self-determination, and confidentiality of persons served.
- Provides information about how to access behavioral health, substance use, primary health, and other community services.
- Provides information about how to access the various rights processes.
- Helps persons served with problems and inquiries regarding eligible benefits.
- Assists persons served with filing a local complaint and/or grievance.
- Serves as a “Systems navigator” by linking to the appropriate resources and services.
- Ensures that phone numbers are provided to persons served, including Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network, Access Emergency After Hours & Customer Services.
Outcome Measures
- Maintains weekly productivity expectations as determined by supervisor.
- Maintains clinical charts in an accurate and timely manner to include, but not limited to assessments and DWIHN and MDCH chart requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience/Skills
- Experience working in community mental health including intellectual developmental disabilities and co-occurring disorders.
- Excellent time-management, communication and organization.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to use standard office equipment.
Education/Credentials
- Master's degree in social work or counseling is required
- LLMSW, LMSW, LLPC, or LPC required
- CADC or CAADC or willingness to apply for MACBAP development plan required

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
