The Human Resources (HR) Manager will oversee all human resources functions at Alleghany, fostering a positive work environment by developing and implementing HR policies, ensuring compliance with labor laws, administering payroll and benefits, and guiding employee recruitment and development. By focusing on employee well-being, performance, and engagement, the HR Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting the company’s strategic objectives and organizational culture.
Priority Functions: Human Resources Management
HR Strategy & Policy Development
o Develop and implement HR policies, procedures, and best practices that align with company goals.
o Oversee employee recruitment, onboarding, and professional development programs.
o Ensure compliance with labor laws, regulations, and organizational standards.
o Conduct market research to maintain competitive compensation and benefits programs.
Performance & Employee Engagement
o Conduct performance evaluations and salary reviews to support employee growth.
o Foster a positive organizational culture through employee engagement initiatives, conflict resolution, and recognition programs.
o Coordinate training programs to enhance skill development and career progression.
Safety & Compliance
o Manage Alleghany’s safety program, including tracking employee certifications and coordinating safety talks.
o Oversee worker’s compensation, unemployment claims, and legal compliance related to terminations and employee records.
o Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws to mitigate risk and ensure best practices.
Basic Functions: HR Management
· HR Administration & Compliance
o Administer payroll, employee benefits, and the 401(k) plan, ensuring timely updates and accurate recordkeeping.
o Manage employee termination processes, including legal paperwork, employment verifications, and PTO tracking.
o Handle employee claims related to workers’ compensation, unemployment, and any leave requests (e.g., FMLA, PFL).
o Maintain and oversee the company’s time-tracking system for hourly employees and manage HR-related software.
Employee Relations & Company Culture
o Plan and coordinate internal events, such as team building, holiday events, recognition programs, and company apparel.
o Develop morale initiatives and ensure employee satisfaction, including rewards and recognition strategies.
o Serve as a trusted point of contact for employees, addressing concerns and facilitating conflict resolution.
o Maintain clear and updated job descriptions and ensure clarity in roles and responsibilities across departments.
Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required:
Education & Experience:
o Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; advanced degree or relevant certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) preferred.
o Experience in HR management or related HR generalist roles.
o Proficiency in financial software and HR management systems (e.g., NetSuite).
o Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
o Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
HR Expertise:
o Strong understanding of HR best practices, including recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and benefits administration.
o Demonstrated knowledge of multi-state labor laws, compliance, and legal regulations.
· Technical Proficiency:
o Proficiency in HRIS and payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paycom, BambooHR, or similar).
o Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or similar productivity tools.
