Position Summary: The Member Support and Compliance Manager is responsible for leading the development and management of comprehensive compliance, fraud prevention, and loss prevention strategies. This position will focus on establishing, improving, and overseeing the credit union’s loss prevention and fraud prevention team and programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements (Bank Secrecy, Ani-Money Laundering, etc.), and managing the Member Support department. The individual will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate risks, safeguard member assets, and enhance operational efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Loss Prevention and fraud management:
· Develop and lead a comprehensive loss prevention and fraud detection team and program tailored to the credit union’s needs and risks.
· Monitor and analyze transaction activities, card fraud, and other financial crimes.
· Work closely with internal departments to implement effective fraud prevention measures, including identifying new technologies and monitoring tools.
· Train staff on recognizing fraud patterns and red flags, ensuring a culture of vigilance across the organization.
· Establish and maintain a system for detecting and reporting fraud cases, ensuring that all incidents are reported in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
· Lead investigations related to fraudulent activities, working with law enforcement as needed to resolve cases and prevent further losses.
· Review and recommend improvements to existing processes, policies, and controls aimed at reducing internal and external fraud risks.
BSA/Compliance Responsibilities:
· Ensure the credit union complies with all applicable regulations, including BSA, AML (Anti-Money laundering), OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control), and other state and federal financial regulations.
· Conduct regular audits and assessments of operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, preparing the necessary documentation for internal and external audits.
· Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure effective compliance with BSA/AML regulations.
· Service as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies during examinations or audits, addressing any findings and ensuring correction actions are taken
· Oversee the training of staff on BSA/AML regulations, policies and procedures to maintain awareness and mitigate risks.
· Develop, perform, and oversee various spot check internal audit procedures, i.e., cash counts, wire transfers, etc. Review random sampling of new accounts for exceptions to policies and procedures.
Member Support Manager:
· Oversee the operations of the Member Support team, observing and assisting the team with script, problem-resolution, and/or questions.
· Assist in the training of Member Support with cross-selling skills to promote credit union products and services as appropriate. Consistently maintain and improve Member supports skills and knowledge for efficient service delivery and high-quality member service.
· Research, assist, and solve complex member questions, problems, and/or complaints concerning credit union accounts.
· Provide coaching and feedback to Member Support team to improve performance
Team Leadership and Training:
· Lead and mentor a team of compliance specialists and member support staff to foster a collaborative and results-driven environment.
· Design and deliver training programs for staff to enhance their knowledge of fraud detection, loss prevention, compliance, and best member practices.
· Conduct regular team meetings to review performance, share insights, and address challenges.
· Disseminate information, answer questions, and be a subject matter expert for the credit union on all compliance related issues.
Collaboration and Reporting:
· Work closely with senior leadership to report on the status of the credit union’s fraud prevention efforts, risk management, and compliance activities.
· Assist in the revision and/or design of forms, products, or programs to ensure compliance with all State and Federal rules and regulations.
· Report to HR investigations of suspected and/or actual internal fraud.
· Create regular reports for the board and senior management, detailing key performance indicators, risk assessments and fraud cases.
· Service as a liaison between the credit union and law enforcement, vendors, and third-party service providers to enhance fraud detection strategies.
