Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Crew Chief/Scanning Technician to join our dynamic team in Orlando, FL. The ideal candidate will lead a survey crew focused primarily on high-precision 3D scanning and the establishment of highly accurate control networks. This role requires a blend of leadership skills, technical expertise, and adaptability to work in diverse field conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise a survey crew, with a primary focus on 3D scanning and control network establishment.
- Perform tasks such as setting up highly accurate, least squares adjusted control networks and executing 3D scanning projects using advanced equipment.
- Operate and maintain various survey equipment, including GPS, total stations, data collectors, and laser scanners.
- Ensure the precision and quality of data collected, with an emphasis on scan registration and data integration.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to meet the specific requirements of each scanning project.
- Prepare and maintain detailed field notes, sketches, and reports, ensuring data integrity throughout the project lifecycle.
- Adhere to safety procedures and company policies while in the field.
- Train and mentor junior survey staff, with a focus on scanning technologies and techniques.
- Travel frequently for work, often involving multi-day trips to various project sites.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field is highly beneficial, providing a solid foundation in the necessary mathematical and technical skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of horizontal and vertical datums, including grid and ground distinctions, orthometric heights, and state plane coordinate systems.
- Prior experience in reality capture, including the setup of control points and targets for aerial and terrestrial projects, is essential. Familiarity with base-rover solutions, total stations, and differential leveling is required.
- Proficiency in CAD and scan registration software is highly desirable.
- Ability to handle fieldwork in various weather conditions, with a strong focus on intelligence, drive, and passion for the profession.
- Clean background check, with the ability to secure clearance for sensitive sites.
- Strong desire for continuous learning and professional growth, viewing this role as a career rather than just a job.
- UAV/Part 107 certification is a plus, as is experience with drone-based data capture.
