Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accountant/Controller to join our professional services firm. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, preparing financial statements, managing budgets, and implementing effective financial controls. The Accountant/Controller will play a crucial role in maintaining the firm’s financial health, supporting senior leadership, and contributing to strategic financial planning.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management:
- Oversee the preparation, review, and analysis of financial statements including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Monitor and manage cash flow, accounts payable/receivable, and the general ledger.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Develop and manage the firm’s annual budget, working closely with department heads and senior leadership.
- Prepare financial forecasts and assist with long-term financial planning.
- Provide actionable insights based on budget variances, trends, and analysis.
Compliance & Tax Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations and reporting requirements.
- Prepare tax filings (business taxes, payroll taxes, etc.) and ensure timely submission.
Internal Controls & Process Improvement:
- Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard the firm’s financial assets.
- Identify areas for process improvement within accounting and financial operations to enhance efficiency and reduce risk.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and documentation.
Team Leadership & Collaboration:
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Collaborate with senior management to support business decision-making by providing financial analysis and reports.
- Assist with ad-hoc financial projects as needed.
Financial Systems & Reporting Tools:
- Manage and optimize accounting software and financial systems.
- Implement new technologies or financial systems to streamline processes and improve accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role (professional services experience is a plus).
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, accounting software, financial regulations, and tax compliance.
- Experience with financial forecasting, budgeting, and strategic financial planning.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time, on-site
- Occasional overtime may be required, particularly during month-end or year-end closings.
