The department's function is to provide high quality financial information and support the decision-makers of Allen & Overy while ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations. These services need to be delivered efficiently while maintaining sharp focus on sustaining and improving a best-in-class internal control environment.
Role purpose
This is an Officer/Specialist position within the Finance department focused on financial accounting, budgeting, reporting, analysis, banking and client accounting. Involved in coordinating all aspects of general ledger accounting. Key focus on assisting the US Financial Controller with monitoring and increasing visibility on spend, reducing risk in all financial processes, and driving best practices as the business propels through a period of growth.

This individual will report directly to the US Financial Controller and will work closely with other members of the US Finance team including Financial Control, Tax, Working Capital, Belfast Shared Service Center, and other support staff teams including Human Resources, Marketing and others.
Key requirements
The annualized base salary range for this position is $115,000 to $135,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on the overall qualifications of the individual applicant for the position and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Role and responsibilities
Financial Accounting
- Prepare our most complex monthly journal entries including the payroll and bonus accrual.
- Perform detailed month-end reviews of US P&Ls and investigate variances to prior year and budget/forecast.
- Review balance sheet account reconciliations, identify areas of risk, and follow up on outstanding items.
- Partner with Shared Service Center Management Accounting team for mid-month trial balance review and ongoing general ledger maintenance.
- Maintain cash flow model within forecasting tool. Ensure all information is current and that timing differences are appropriately addressed.
Budgeting, Reporting and Analysis
- Prepare practice group and support department performance data and compare to budget/forecast and prior year.
- Assist with preparation of annual budget and periodic forecasts.
- Lead meetings with support department budget owners to discuss financial results and monthly variances.
- Prepare ad hoc presentations and analysis of financial data.
- Maintain contracts register for the US offices. Collate the information for the register and work with contract owners to ensure that the information in the register is current and complete.
Banking/Client Accounting
- Review bank account activity daily.
- Research questions about bank activity on a priority basis and work with bank personnel to resolve urgent issues.
- Manage client money transactions and accounting when Senior Accountant is out of the office.
Team
This individual will report directly to the US Financial Controller and will work closely with other members of the US Finance team including Financial Control, Tax, Working Capital, Belfast Shared Service Center, and other support staff teams including Human Resources, Marketing and others.
Key requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
- Certified Public Accountant preferred
- At least 5 years experience in a leading company/law firm
- Must be a self-starter with drive, enthusiasm and tenacity, possessing excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Hands-on, "sleeves rolled up," resourceful and results-oriented, proactive and responsive
- Excellent attention to detail
- Will need to be visible and have the confidence and sensitivity to approach difficult conversations with care
- Unquestionable ethics and integrity and commitment to operational excellence
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritize heavy and varied workloads
- Advanced proficiency in Excel required
- Occasional travel required domestically and internationally
- Experience with 3E is an advantage but not essential
