Summary
Provides leadership and support to staff through planning, directing and overseeing school operations, staff development, and treatment services including the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, to ensure the development and growth of high-quality programming and services in these areas.
Provides supervision and support to staff and ensures compliance with ISBE School Code, DCFS Rule 384 and the Agency Behavior Treatment Plan & Management Policies. Ensures timely communication and documentation of pertinent issues related to students, staff or community concerns with Educational, Residential and Clinical Treatment Supervisors and Directors, as well as Vice Presidents as appropriate.
Responsibilities 1. Plans, directs and oversees program policies/procedures, operations, budgets, systems and procedures. Provides supervision to staff supervised. Trains, orients, and provides onboarding support to new staff and staff development to all staff.
2. Advises, recommends and helps formulate policies and procedures and ensures their implementation including oversight of all behavioral incidents and documentation.
3. Works with School Administrative Team and Vice President of Educational Services to ensure appropriate assessment and delivery of staff development opportunities and training and provides leadership with school special events (i.e. graduation, job fairs, etc.).
4. Participates in annual teacher recruitment activities as needed. Review resume’ screen and interview. Oversees teacher mentor program.
5. Oversees and /or conducts debriefings of staff following restrictive interventions as required by agency policy.
6. Attends agency meetings and trainings as assigned. Remains an active member of assigned Agency committees including CQI committees.
7. Provides supervision and performance evaluation of assigned teachers and specials staff (i.e., PE, Music, Art, Instructors and Job Coaches). Teams with other Directors to ensure comprehensive classroom and school environment supervision are delivered in a best practice and consistent manner to all classroom teachers and instructors monitoring curriculum implementation as well as implementation of agency treatment Model. Reviews lesson plans, schedules, staffing reports, report cards, oversees curriculum development and monitors IEP compliance.
8. Coordinates, supervises, develops, markets and implements the Career & Technical Education Program for the Agency. Monitors the effectiveness of the Program in order to meet Program goals and objectives, meet the needs of the students and funding resources, and to ensure the quality of the program.
9. Develops and approves Career & Technical Education Programs and job sites. Provides input and services for transitional plans. Participates in team and supervisory meetings and presents and/or prepares related reports.
10. Oversees the vocational assessment/selection/placement process; and oversees the regular vocational testing counseling, monitoring, and progress of students. Ensures appropriate academic credits for participation in the Program are processed for students.
11. Oversees the Career & Technical Education Budget, expenditures, and revenues/billings. Ensures maintenance of appropriate and/or required records and licenses.
12. Oversees the grant writing process for the Program including grants under the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) and the Private Industry Council (PIC).
13. Addresses staff performance concerns and/or disciplinary issues in accordance with agency policy and in consultation with VPs of Education and HR.
14. Acts as job developer, making contacts with potential employers and maintaining positive agency employer relations in order to develop potential positions and worksites for program students.
15. Tracks and maintains records and licenses, including billing records and the licenses to pay sub-minimal wages and Sliding Scale wages, Processes billings to appropriate funding sources.
16. Prepares, presents and/or reviews various reports including the Department of Rehabilitation Services quarterly reports.
17. Markets Program and attends external organization meetings in order to build and maintain resources and contacts. Oversees planning and implementation of CTE community sales events.
18. Oversees weekly payroll for student training program.
19. Oversees coordination and execution of state testing. Ensures adequate testing accommodations and coordination with home school districts for required reporting and data sharing purposes.
20. Participates and Chairs IEP and other staffing meetings as needed.
21. Maintains proficiency in ISBE rules and regulations governing nonpublic special education school programs. Assists VP in ensuring compliance with ISBE expectations and reporting.
22. Develops strong relationships with community groups and volunteers as appropriate.
23. Maintains knowledge of current field trends; maintains membership in appropriate internal and external committees and professional organizations. Attends appropriate training programs and professional conferences. Develop and implement comprehensive career services programs tailored to the needs of youth with emotional and behavioral challenges.
Qualifications 1 Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field. 2. Illinois LBS1 license.
3. Illinois Type 75 license or Principal/Administrative endorsement in educational supervision/administration or in process.
