Job Summary
Patient Service Representatives are required to present a positive service-oriented image with actions that are consistent with practice service standards. Follow procedures/protocols established for the management of patient care. Shares responsibility for promoting exceptional staff/patient relations, and facilitating smooth patient flow through the department. The Patient Service Representative also ensures necessary paperwork is complete, greets, instructs and schedules patient and visitors.
Essential Job Functions
Performs selected administrative duties.
Recognizes and respond to verbal, non-verbal, and written communication.
Schedules tests and treatments.
Receives and stores office supplies.
Able to answer/manage multiple phone lines.
Accurately records telephone calls and ensures follow-through.
In accordance with established procedures, receives and forwards all incoming phone calls as appropriate (triage nurse, administration, clinical) in a friendly manner.
Documents and escalates any inappropriate interactions involving patients and reports to management when necessary.
Responsible for greeting patients and visitors in a prompt, pleasant and professional manner.
Verifies and updates patient’s demographic information including insurance information.
Responsible to check patient in per IMS for office visits and testing.
Assists new patients in completing necessary paperwork and assures all paperwork is fully completed.
Assures that proper HIPAA compliance is being followed.
Responsible for collecting insurance co-pay amounts.
Responsible for obtaining referrals as required by insurance.
Schedules appointments for patient with specialists.
Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits.
Scans as needed.
Prints daily schedules for MA’s and/or Providers and informing MA’s and/or providers of any updates to the schedule. .
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Six months to one year related experience in a medical office or similar clinical setting required.
One year of Receptionist experience preferred.
Good phone etiquette.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Knowledge of computer software. (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Knowledge of HIPAA.
Must be self-motivated with strong decision making and problem solving abilities.
Thorough understanding of healthcare deductibles, co-payments, co-insurance required.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and medical staff.
Ability to think critically and investigate to find resolutions for patients.
Strong computer skills.
