Job Summary
The Cost Accountant will work closely with all levels of the organization to meet financial forecasting, reporting, and planning needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background with operational accounting experience with a proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced workplace environment. The role will require the development, delivery, and presentation of key reporting. The candidate should have a strong understanding of financial, operational, sales, and macro/industry key metrics necessary to analyze and report on performance. Assist in establishing and maintaining policies, internal controls and financial systems.
Key Departmental Responsibilities
Cost accounting and reporting duties:
- Reconcile labor costs with production
- Perform month end close for Inventory
- Perform Standard Cost Roll process annually
- Allocate costs to appropriate production line or department
- Assist in the budgeting and forecasting process
- Track consumables and maintenance items
- Gross profit analysis and trending
- Develop/update labor and overhead rates and analyze variances when changes have occurred
- Track labor efficiency, productivity, absorption and overtime tracking
- Actively manage remanufacturing inventory
- General core management and analysis
- Perform monthly gross margin analysis including price/volume
- Monitor and reconcile Core deferred revenue
- Assist plant personnel in resolving accounting issues and enhancing reporting accuracy
Other duties:
- Track on-going research & development costs and assist with annual R&D study.
- Assist with the set-up of remanufacturing product lines in the ERP.
- Assist with business acquisition set-up in the ERP.
- Provide input and feedback regarding financial system needs/changes.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements that conform to GAAP.
- Review expenditures and prepare operating budgets and allocations for various departments to ensure compliance with budgetary limits.
- Assess internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas.
- Support the annual audit process.
- Pursue opportunities for process improvements in the financial department and assist as requested in other departments.
- Operate in conformance with the requirements of the Alliant Power quality management system.
- Assist other employees both in and out of the department.
- Perform other related projects, duties and assignments as required.
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. Minimum of 5 years of experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word required. Experience with financial management and control of manufacturing operations. Possess strong organizational and communication skills and ability to work independently on detail-oriented projects, multi-task, and prioritize workflow based on departmental goals and priorities. Communication skills will include the ability to convey financial information to non-financial people.
