We are looking for a Director of Program Business Development for our Inland Marine line of business.   This role is ideal for individuals with experience in insurance carrier specialty product development, underwriting practice leadership, and/or insurance carrier programs and national sales. Whether it's a building under construction or a shipment of an original Picasso, our inland marine insurance underwriters provide flexible and creative solutions for the most challenging of inland marine exposures.

The Impact You Will Have

Source and on-board inland marine programs while forming and maintaining strong relationships with brokers, intermediaries, and program managers. In addition, would orchestrate corporate governance requirements as respects MGAs and work with various AzC departments through the program due diligence and launch phases. Day-to-day oversight of identified key MGA partners and execution of targeted program premium growth, retention, and profitability across NA Marine. Promulgate NA Marine program strategy, including Broker Sales Planning, Broker Engagement Model, pipeline development and management, business analysis, remuneration, and governance while working directly with other business partners, specifically NA Inland Marine Underwriters and Distribution.

Some of your specific responsibilities could include:

  • Product Development
    • Research information on competitive trends, product line trends, producer trends and external environment, including legal, economic, demographic and distribution trends. Recommend new and revised products and programs, underwriting standards and procedures, and provide guidance on pricing within the regions. Monitor product result and develops proposals to maximize profitability, including the review of claims/large losses/trends.
  • Business and Relationship Development with Broker Partners
    • Spearhead annual sales planning with assigned brokers, including business development, strategic engagement, retention initiatives, cross-selling opportunities (pipelining), and profitability. Develop NA Marine market potential via different industry and broker. Manage internal and external delivery of Broker sales plans via strategic alignment and pipelining/cross-selling activities. Plan, manage, and deliver on broker segmentation strategy.
  • Act as a Key Influencer and Resource to Underwriters and NA Distribution
    • Drive client-centric and “play-to-win” culture, behavior and sales capabilities both within the NA Marine. Participate in execution of Sales Culture initiatives, including Sales training within NA Marne. Act as a LoB advocate to escalate new business opportunities, key renewals, and outstanding issues with senior management. Consistent and Disciplined approach to Line of Business Engagement, Communication, and Collaboration to ensure alignment with goals and priorities.
  • Relationship Management
    • Positively represent AzC externally to the market. Proactively drive involvement of functional areas in Underwriting process, including e.g. MMC, ARC, Claims, Operations. Develop and maintain strong relationships with key brokers and clients and other relevant stakeholders (e.g. risk managers).
  • Program Management
    • Key resources within Inland Marine for all program activities. Research develop and implement programs for NA Inland Marine in coordination with zones and represent organization with external and internal business partners.

What You’ll Bring to the Role –

  • A minimum 7 years’ significant experience in underwriting profitable Inland Marine business. Specialized expert understanding of multiple sub-LoB products and portfolio
    • Well versed in multiple inland marine products such as construction, transportation, miscellaneous coverages, and property (i.e., builder’s risk, contractor’s equipment, motortruck cargo, physical damage, mono line property for small to medium risks, and scheduled property floaters).
  • Demonstrable, established relationships with brokers at peer group level and well established within market. Specialized understanding of regional / local LoB insurance markets and competitor landscape, including global elements. Good understanding of legal and regulatory framework.
  • Experience working in complex, global matrix organization.
  • Preferably a degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Law, or other appropriate discipline with completion of a professional insurance qualification.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, intermediary operations, insurance laws and general business operations. Comprehensive knowledge of competition and marketing conditions.
  • Knowledge of AzC and competitor marketing, sales, and underwriting strategies and technical knowledge of the Inland Marine line of business.
  • Ability to analyze highly complex data, from multiple sources, in detail; identify and resolve issues before they transpire. Ability to develop, implement and communicate strategies to address important trends or changes in the business.
  • Ability to express ideas and messages clearly, both written and verbally. Ability to "sell" an improvised or prepared audience winning story.
  • Portfolio Management including analysis of actuarial tables, trend analysis, CAT aggregates, etc.
  • The ability to utilize AI tools to support day-today tasks, improve efficiency, and contribute to data-driven decision-making is valuable. A willingness to learn and explore how AI can enhance your role and the broader organization is expected.

The annualized base pay range for this role is $112,350 to $188,683. The annual base salary range represents a nationwide market range. The actual salary for this position may be above and will be determined by several factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role, the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate. The base pay is just one component of the AzC total compensation package. As part of our comprehensive compensation and highly rated benefits programs, employees are also eligible for annual performance-based cash incentive awards
