SHAPES TECHNICIAN

Skilled manual tasks involving considerable physical effort to produce precast refractory shapes. Utilizes blueprints with a variety of measuring tools, hand tools, and power tools to assemble Styrofoam, wood, and steel forms, cast refractory products, and finish the resulting shape.

• Duties and Responsibilities
• Receives, inspects and evaluates all raw materials. Assists in the development, revision, etc. of raw materials as needed.
• Responsible for completing daily assignments to meet customer demands for production.
• Stages materials for daily production demand and weighs all production batches including additives.
• Assists in the training of any new employees as needed.
• Reads and interprets water charts for production recipes.
• Assists in maintaining an orderly plant layout cleans and organizes areas as necessary.
• Interacts with vendors when necessary.
• Cleans mixer and staging areas. Makes sure the area is ready for the next days staging of materials.
• Assembles forms using hand tools and power tools. May use various glues, adhesives and other bonding agents; grease and other form release agents; screws, bolts and other fasteners. Materials used to construct the form may include wood, rubber, steel, plastics and / or Styrofoam.
• As required by production (based on QA checks or problems), repairs forms using hand tools, power tools, and necessary materials typically used in form construction.
• Reviews blueprints / sketches of shape specifications. Compares assembled forms and finished shape measurements to blueprints to evaluate quality.
• Uses lifting equipment to move shapes and forms as needed. Uses hand tools and power tools to finish shapes prior to drying.

• Qualifications
• Must be physically and mentally fit for duty.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Dependable and able to maintain the attendance required to perform the job.
• Ability to read, write, comprehend and fully understand : SOPs, SDSs, labeling, safety and health regulations, and procedures within the job, this job group and the plant.
• The position of Shapes Technician requires experience in shape refractory manufacturing or equivalent training. Applicants may be asked to complete an aptitude assessment before being offered a position.
• Must have experience in operating a forklift and crane safely and efficiently.
• Must be able to comprehend written and oral instructions, read, have basic mathematics skills, and other required technical skills.
• Previous experience with welding, cutting of steel, basic maintenance skills, and ability to read drawings is preferred.
• Working Environment
• Environment can be dusty and dirty.
• Work area is in a hot and / or cold environment.
• Shift varies from early morning start, evenings and weekends.
• Required to wear respirator, safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety shoes.
• Physical Requirements
• Must be able to lift and carry 55 pounds continually and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
• Must be able to qualify for and wear a respirator.
• Prolonged periods working on feet and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping.
• The job requires lifting, pulling, pushing, turning, stacking and carrying 55 pounds of forms, unstable bags, drums, cartons, and pails consistently and frequently, therefore the candidate must be fit for duty.
• Physical requirements include, but are not limited to, palletizing, batching and material handling.
• he ability to pass a drug screen and physical (to wear a respirator) is required prior to starting work should an offer be made.
