POSITION TITLE:  Engineering Intern

PAY GRADE:    Non-Exempt

1.0Summary:

Placement will be based on your skillset and interests, with opportunities in the following areas:

  • Product Design and Development-Supporting new product designs, prototyping, and testing.
  • Tooling and Equipment Design- Assisting in the development and improvement of tooling and manufacturing equipment.
  • Manufacturing Process and Industrial Engineering-Working on process optimization, efficiency improvements, and production support.

This internship provides hands-on experience in both manufacturing and design engineering, with responsibilities tailored to your skills and interests. Based on your strengths, you may focus more on manufacturing process improvements or product / equipment design.

2.0 Key Responsibilities: (Tailored to Your Skillset & Interests)

Manufacturing and Process Engineering Focus:

  • Support process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve production flow.
  • Assist with data analysis on production metrics to identify bottlenecks and recommend optimizations.
  • Work on tooling and equipment upgrades, helping with troubleshooting and modifications.
  • Develop and update work instructions, SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures), and manufacturing documentation.
  • Collaborate with production teams to implement automation and lean manufacturing initiatives.

Design & Development Focus:

  • Assist in product, tooling, or equipment design, including CAD modeling and prototyping.
  • Conduct test and validation of designs to ensure performance and reliability.
  • Work on design improvements for manufacturability and cost reduction.
  • Create and maintain engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  •   Support the development of standardized design processes and best practices.

4.0     EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (or related degree),
  • Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, Auto CAD), or similar relevant engineering software is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes, automation, or product design.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and design fundamentals.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to collaborate in a hands-on, fast paced environment.

5.0     MENTAL / VISUAL REQUIREMENT:

  • Ability to follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to work without close supervision.
  • Ability to generate reporting documents and participate in team meetings.
  • Self-motivated with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Good general ability with use of computer touch screens and written documents.
  • Basic math skills, ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

6.0 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

7.0 WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the associate frequently works near moving parts. The associate may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Due to the open environment of the building, must be able to work in various temperatures. Involves moderate or occasional presence of unfavorable conditions, i.e., cold, dust, heat, noise, odor, chemicals, etc. Safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, heat protective sleeves, and safety shoes may be required in the area that you are working in based on our safety PPE standards.
