General Summary
A member of the Management team, the Production Manager will report to the Mil Manager. The Production Manager will be in charge of all aspects of stock prep, tissue production, converting and shipping, including but not limited to housekeeping, safety, quality, production, waste, cost control, etc. The successful candidate will demonstrate a team approach when working closely with other departments and vendors. The Production Manager will have the following direct reports: machine superintendents, tour foremen, and a process or production coordinator.
Working Conditions
The Production Manager spends 80% of the time reaching and exceeding company goals (safety, environmental, production, cost, waste, housekeeping, etc) in a mill environment that is relatively noisy with exposure to hazardous chemicals, wet and/or humid conditions, electrical hazards, dust, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, slippery conditions and heavy machinery traffic. The other 20% of the time is spent in an office environment preparing reports and attending meetings.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Establish expectations for all direct reports and for the stock prep, production, and shipping departments
- Organize and execute daily production and maintenance planning meetings
- Lead by example on safety culture
- Maintain an open door policy with Union 75
- Approve SOPs and procedures for the departments.
- Set and attain business goals and track performance of those goals.
- Run departments within the budget or financial plan.
- Document and prioritize maintenance work.
- Maintain a “ready to implement” emergency and scheduled shutdown plan.
- Mid to long term continuous improvement.
- Create and maintain a mid and long term capital plan.
- Remain on call for any issues in the departments.
- Lead, train, mentor, and coach (including discipline) the tour foremen, and paper machine superintendent
- Ensure training of hourly workforce in the departments is complete and effective
- Weekend and holiday coverage of other areas and the entire mill will be expected periodically.
Key Contacts
The Operations Manager will work closely with the Mill Manager, other members of management team and departments, union leadership, vendors, and customers, etc.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- BS degree in related field and/or equivalent experience.
- 10 years in progressively responsible leadership roles, preferably in tissue or paper manufacturing environments.
- High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
- Strong problem solving and creative skills, accompanied by the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate analyses.
- Ability to partner effectively with the Executive and Management Teams in commitment to reaching company goals.
