Location: Troy, MI (2-3 onsite hybrid)

Job Summary:
The Server and Automation Specialist will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining server infrastructure and automation solutions in a VMware environment. This role focuses on automation, scripting, and orchestration for VMware vSphere, VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM), and related disaster recovery processes.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in server automation, VMware virtualization, SRM disaster recovery automation, and scripting (PowerCLI, Python, Ansible, or Terraform).
Key Responsibilities:
- Deploy, configure, and maintain VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts and vCenter Server.
- Manage and optimize compute, storage, and networking resources for virtualized workloads.
- Ensure high availability and disaster recovery using VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM).
- Implement best practices for server performance, scalability, and security.
- Develop automation scripts using PowerCLI, Python, Ansible, or Terraform to streamline server deployment and management.
- Automate SRM failover and failback processes to improve disaster recovery efficiency.
- Create self-healing mechanisms for server issues using automation frameworks.
- Work with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to deploy and manage infrastructure configurations.
- Design and implement automated disaster recovery workflows using VMware SRM.
- Optimize failover and failback processes with runbooks and scripting.
- Regularly test and validate DR plans to ensure compliance with business continuity requirements.
- Monitor and improve RTO (Recovery Time Objective) and RPO (Recovery Point Objective).
- Use VMware Aria (formerly vRealize), Prometheus, or Grafana for monitoring server performance and resource utilization.
- Implement proactive s and automated responses for infrastructure health.
- Optimize vSphere and SRM automation scripts for better efficiency and performance.
- Ensure security hardening of VMware ESXi hosts, vCenter, and automated processes.
- Maintain compliance with ISO 27001, PCI-DSS, SOC2, or other industry regulations.
- Implement role-based access control (RBAC) and secure automation workflows.
- Collaboration with cross-functional teams (networking, security, cloud, DevOps) .
- Experience in a banking or financial services environment is highly desirable.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
- 6 years of experience in VMware vSphere administration & automation.
- 2 years of experience with VMware SRM and disaster recovery automation.
Technical Skills:
- VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter) administration & troubleshooting.
- VMware SRM (Site Recovery Manager) automation & scripting.
- Strong scripting experience with PowerCLI, PowerShell, Python, or Ansible.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform.
- Knowledge of backup & disaster recovery best practices.
- Familiarity with storage (vSAN, NFS, iSCSI) and networking (NSX, VLANs).
Certifications:
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP-DCV or VCP-CMA) .
- VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP-DCV or VCAP-CMA) .
- AWS or Azure cloud automation certifications (AWS Certified SysOps, Azure Administrator) .
