OVERVIEW
As the first Human Resources employee in Canada, this individual must be a strong self-starter with a growth mindset. This role will partner directly with cross-functional teams to support the stores across Canada. You will also be responsible for building out the Retail People processes, policies, and compliance across the Canadian market, as well as support the strategic talent growth. This position has remote flexibility but will require you to be based permanently in Canada.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner with Legal counsel to create Retail Handbooks, policies and procedure to ensure compliance with employment laws for each province
- Launch North American HR initiatives and programs to ensure consistency across the organization
- Support local recruitment efforts for all levels and build tools for future effectiveness
- Develop HR programs (Benefits, Leave Administration, Health & Safety, Payroll, etc) aligned with
- company culture and local legislation
- Provide support, thought partnership and coaching to management and employees on human
- resources related matters, policies & procedures, and employment law
- Conduct investigations into complex employee relations issues and partner with business
- leaders on resolutions
- Assist in queries from employees and work with the HR team to support processes of the entire
- employee lifecycle
- Develop strong cross-functional partnerships with leaders to become the trusted business
- partner across the retail space
- Assist with professional development programs, talent assessment tools and administer
- performance reviews
- Support & develop an HR team that provides world class partnership
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be bilingual in English and French
- Knowledge of employment law across provinces, specifically AB, BC, ON & QC
- Previous work experience in Retail and with a Global company
- Previous experience managing a team a plus
- 3 - 5 years HR Manager and/or Business Partner experience
- Experience supporting hourly employee client groups
- Experience in retail or high-volume field facing environments
- Proficiency with SharePoint, ADP, Cornerstone, Greenhouse, Microsoft office systems a plus
- Self-starter and entrepreneurial mindset
- A people person – leads with kindness and integrity
- Ability to support both HQ and Retail environments and navigate rapid and continuous growth and seasonal increases during the holiday season
- Comfortability with a high volume and evolving workload
- Ability to identify problems and come forward with solutions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Customer service – quick and accurate responses to employee inquiries and needs

- Must be based in Canada
- Must be comfortable with 50% travel, with the majority of time being spent in the field
The base salary range for this position is $100,000-$140,000 CAD per year which represents the current range for the base salary for this exempt position. Please note that actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. As such, on occasion and when applicable, there is the possibility that the final, agreed-upon base salary may be outside of the upper end of the range. Please also note the range listed is just one component of the company’s total rewards package for exempt employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses, long term incentives, a PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.
