Back of House Position: Chef
Newberg's newest Gastrolounge, Alpha Bravo, seeks an enterprising head chef to oversee the development of our food program. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who shares our values and is interested in building and growing the business. The candidate must have a strong work ethic and desire to provide exceptional hospitality while thinking outside the box with a focus on details.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a desire to work efficiently and with a sense of urgency to complete tasks in a fast paced environment
- Should have a sense of cleanliness and keep all prep and cooking areas clean and organized
- Willingness to learn and be a team player, and take feedback in stride
- Ability to self-start, stay organized and on task while working alone
- Must have a positive attitude and want to co-create a comfortable working environment
- Must be detailed oriented and communicate openly as a team
General Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years of back of house experience
- Ordering and inventory experience required
- Management experience required
- Knowledge of proper knife skills
- Must be 21 or over with a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- OLCC permit
- Food handlers permit
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry 50 lbs.
- Willing to work weekends and holidays with a flexible schedule.
- Currently legal to work in the US (must be a US citizen, legal US resident, or have a valid worker visa).
- Must have or be able to obtain all certifications necessary
Responsibilities: The following reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. .
- Developing new dishes, assessing cost and planning prep for them in line with the owners vision and values
- Preparing food, including cleaning and cutting ingredients, cooking, and cleaning dishes as you go
- Overseeing the other back of house staff, making sure all duties are completed and performed with accuracy
- Responsible for managing and taking inventory, accounting for loss, and reporting periodically to upper management on food costs
- Responsible for ordering of food by managing inventory through established channels
- Plating prepared foods
- Working with servers to ensure orders are completed according to request and are paced on time
- Ensuring that the kitchen operation procedures and hygiene meet food safety standards.
- Preparing food by operating a variety of kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients
- Washing, peeling cutting of fruits, vegetables, and meat
- Tastes products through prep process to make sure food taste is standardized
- Date all ingredients, stocks, prep, etc and keep items fresh with minimal waste
- Assisting with stocking and setting up kitchen stations
Compensation & Schedule:
- Salary starting at $70,000
- Health insurance stipend
- Paid time off
- Wine allocation
- Must be able to work Wed-Sunday
