Laboratory Supervisor
This position is responsible for supervising and overseeing daily lab activities and projects and ensuring the quality and safety of laboratory operations. The role involves self-scheduling assignments, maintaining equipment, conducting training, and performing related activities in support of the business operations. This position also supports field sampling and testing roles to the construction services and geotechnical team. This position has opportunities for advance responsibilities and movement to management positions.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Direct and oversee lab staff in testing, equipment maintenance, calibrations, and daily operations.
- Support field work as needed for the Geotechnical and Construction Services operations.
- Direct, perform, and oversee testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and masonry mortar/grout on construction projects for compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, DOT, and/or project specifications.
- Prepare documentation of field activities, observations, and testing on construction projects, to ensure conformance with project plans and specifications.
- Train employees on lab processes and ensure staff maintain certifications for technical development.
- Oversee and develop quality protocols per AASHTO requirements.
Position Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in geology, civil, or geotechnical engineering or other closely related technical field.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a materials testing role.
- Proficiency with computer technology and mechanical testing equipment.
- Note: Recent graduates with related college courses or laboratory testing experience and who have a capacity and willingness to learn through hard work are encourage to apply.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- Mandatory use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment.
- Potential outdoor assignments in varying weather conditions.
- Stand for potentially up to 12 hours a day.
- Routinely lift and carry 40-50lbs of samples, laboratory equipment such as molds and hammers.
