As a Lab Supervisor, you will supervise and mentor laboratory staff, providing training, guidance, and performance evaluations to ensure optimal productivity and professional development.

Your Impact in This Role

As a Lab Supervisor, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, including scheduling, workflow management, and ensuring the lab is adequately staffed.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory standards, policies, and procedures, including safety, health, and quality guidelines.
• Monitor the calibration, maintenance, and repair of laboratory equipment, ensuring that all instruments are functioning correctly and are in optimal working condition.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for lab processes, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and efficiency.
• Coordinate and support laboratory testing, including sample preparation, analysis, and reporting of results.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation for all laboratory activities, including experiment logs, safety inspections, and maintenance reports.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and provide ongoing training to staff regarding safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Collaborate with other departments to support research and development activities, ensuring timely and accurate testing and reporting.
• Analyse submitted samples and produce accurate results, respecting agreed deadlines.
• Prepare samples compliant with the relevant methodology and the required accuracy and precision.
• Conduct the analysis of samples and follow laboratory procedures on various sample types, as submitted, to produce.
• Validate the analyzed samples.
• Control whether the used methodology is relevant for the sample type.
• Thoroughly understand the principles of operations of the analytical equipment, and operate them correctly.
• Perform calibration checks of the instruments to the reference.
• Purchase new material when needed.
• Set up planning (short term), by prioritizing workload and organizing resources in order to maintain an efficient, cost-effective and organized department.
• Instruct staff on upcoming deadlines and ad hoc changes in priorities.
• Liaise with internal customers and the technical services team to achieve workable expectations.
• Develop new methods and procedures to continuously improve the sample analysis.
• Motivate and evaluate the team members to enhance team collaboration and support their individual development and growth.
• Practical understanding of the industrial mineral industry.
• Knowledge of Sibelco's safety and quality regulations and ensures activities are in compliance with those regulations.
• Ability to work with a basic set of software packages.
• In-depth knowledge of the majority of relevant analytical techniques and methodologies.
  
  
  

What You Bring To The Table

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Material Engineering or comparable/relevant experience
• 3 years of experience in lab work.
• Fluency in the local language and written and spoken English.
