Job Description: Forestry Mulcher Operator (TRAVEL REQUIRED)

Location: Michigan
Summary:
The Forestry Mulcher Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining a forestry mulcher to clear vegetation and prepare land for various forestry and land management projects. This includes operating the mulcher safely and efficiently, performing basic maintenance, and adhering to all safety regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate forestry mulcher safely and efficiently to clear vegetation such as trees, brush, and undergrowth.
- Prepare the work area by identifying and marking obstacles and ensuring safe operating conditions.
- Perform basic maintenance on the mulcher, including refueling, checking fluids, and conducting minor repairs.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and best practices, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including hours worked, fuel consumption, and equipment maintenance.
- Communicate effectively with the crew Foreman and other team members.
- Assist with other forestry tasks as needed, such as tree felling, climbing, and skidding.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Operate and maintain a utility truck and trailer for transporting machinery as needed.
- Follow and adhere to state and Federal DOT regulations, including pre and post trip inspections of transport equipment.
- Follow basic instruction from crew foreman, and work with other team members in a positive manner.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior experience operating forestry equipment required (minimum of 1 year), specifically mulchers.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot minor equipment issues.
- Excellent safety awareness and the ability to follow safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to perform demanding physical labor, including lifting, carrying, and operating heavy equipment.
- Valid CDL – A driver's license with a clean driving record.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and inclement weather.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery for extended periods.
Work Environment:
- Candidate will travel to the project site for extended periods; up to 21 days at a time.
- Work is primarily outdoors in a forest environment.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and vibrations from equipment.
- Potential for exposure to hazards such as falling trees, brush, and uneven terrain.
