What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician position at Altar Valley Elementary District?
SUMMARY: The General Maintenance Technician performs whatever duties are necessary to assist the Altar Valley School District Maintenance Department to maintain buildings and facilities. The many and varied responsibilities of this employee help to ensure productive use of the work time of the Maintenance Department employees. To accomplish these tasks the General Maintenance Technician must work closely with the staff and administration of Altar Valley School District. This employee will also assist in the supervision of summer Maintenance/Grounds personnel as well as other temporary employees.
RATE: $16.00-22.00 an hour
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to follow verbal or written instructions
- Perform minor repairs to assist the Maintenance Department with school building needs
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with other departments
- Maintain cleanliness of general shop area.
- Maintain equipment utilized in the various sections of the Maintenance Department
- Operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, skid-steer, dump truck/sander, sweeper, and mowers
- Operate all power equipment and hand tools
- Pick up and deliver equipment, parts, and supplies as required
- Perform periodic grounds maintenance, including operating power yard equipment, and taking measures to reduce operating hazards
- Maintain the “tool crib” in an orderly, efficient and accurate manner, included but not limited to being accountable for tools, equipment and supplies checked in/out to district personnel
- Willing to attend pertinent workshops and training sessions
- Respond to warranty concerns on new equipment and systems in new buildings
- Maintain fire suppression system
- Be knowledgeable and compliant of OSHA regulations
- Have working knowledge and be capable of repairing irrigation systems
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Either possess or be able to obtain an Arizona Fingerprint IVP card
- Two or more years of demonstrated experience in maintenance field
- Have ability to respond to district needs on an “on-call” basis
- Have reliable cell phone that can be contacted during emergencies
- Have the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Maintain appearance and conduct suitable for working with students, other district staff and the public
- Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities necessary to work independently with little supervision
- Current driver’s license and evidence of good driving record
- Fingerpint Clearnce Card

- Required to stand, stoop or crouch and other physical exertion for prolonged periods

- Required to work from ladders or scaffolds
- May be exposed to potentially dangerous conditions
- Required to drive between sites
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
