Support Staff
Position summary:
Support staff members support servers and kitchen staff by running food, setting, clearing and re-setting tables, effectively performing “in-service” ongoing table maintenance and adhering to the service standards set forth by Alter management. Support staff are also responsible for adhering to sanitation and safety policies as well as maintaining a clean work environment in accordance with their shiftly duties.
Tasks:
- Deliver food orders from the kitchen to customers’ tables rapidly and accurately
- Act as the contact point between Front of the House and Back of the House staff
- Communicate food issues to chefs, paying attention to priorities and special requests (e.g. food allergies)
- Ensure food is served in accordance with safety standards (e.g. proper temperature)
- Answer guests’ questions about ingredients and menu items
- Inform restaurant staff about customers’ feedback or requests (e.g. when they ask for the check)
- Prepares dining room for patrons by cleaning and setting tables; setting decorations, condiments, candles, napkins, service plates, and utensils.
- Protects establishment and patrons by adhering to sanitation and safety policies.
- Maintains menu presentation by keeping menus clean; replacing damaged or soiled pages; cleaning chalkboards; lettering specials on chalkboards.
- Maintains table setting by removing courses as completed; replenishing utensils; refilling water glasses; being alert to patron spills or other special needs.
- Supports wait staff by setting-up and replenishing condiment stands, trash containers liners, bus stations and bathrooms.
- Performs all opening/closing duties as set forth by Alter management.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in staff training opportunities.
- Enhances organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Experience And Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Proper food-handling certificate(s).
