VP Development
Detroit, Michigan
The Vice President of Development (VPD) plays a critical leadership role at Alternatives for Girls and is responsible for developing and implementing overall fund development, volunteerism, marketing, and communications strategies for a non-profit with a nearly $10M budget.
What kind of success do you have fundraising? What aspects of development do you enjoy?
The VPD will raise and sustain funds of at least $3.5 M from private sectors through individual major gifts and institutional partners such as corporations, private and community foundations, and board gifts. The VPD will develop a strategic development plan to increase the private revenue goal to $4 M for the 2026 fiscal year.
Other Responsibilities:
- Work closely with a grant writing/evaluation team (firm) on foundation prospecting, taking the lead on maintaining, and managing relationships with the foundations and corporations.
- Oversee a handful of staff professionals, while also developing strong internal relationships with the program director-level leadership staff and the board.
- Responsible for strengthening the organization’s brand and growing the percentage of the annual budget coming from the private sector.
- Provide leadership on growing the volunteer program.
- Manage the Marketing and Fund Development Committee of the Board.
Demonstrated Abilities:
- Strong organizational, fundraising, project management, and leadership skills; must have the ability to move donors along in the cultivation cycle.
- Strong major gift and some planned giving experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, nonprofit management, or a related field of study expected; master’s degree preferred.
- 7-10 years of fundraising experience, including 5-6 years in a managerial role.
- Nonprofit management experience is essential.
