The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for the treatment of patients under the supervision of the Physical Therapist in compliance with licensure standards. The assistant works with an interdisciplinary team, contributing to patient goal development and identifying barriers to discharge. They provide patient-centered care and assist the Physical Therapist in planning and organizing the plan of care for the patient.
Key Responsibilities:
The Physical Therapist Assistant will frequently sit, stand, walk, stoop/bend, reach, crawl, squat/crouch/kneel, twist, handle/finger/feel, see, and hear. They will occasionally work outdoors. The job requires medium weight demands, including lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, and sliding/transfering equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. The Physical Therapist Assistant must be able to drive regularly as a frequent driver.

They provide patient-centered care and assist the Physical Therapist in planning and organizing the plan of care for the patient.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate, develop, and implement an intervention plan using effective and meaningful methods that align with the patient's plan of care through remediation/restoration, compensation/adaptation, disability prevention, and health promotion.
- Provide intervention, evaluation, and documentation of goal progress, modify intervention methods as needed, and work with therapy team members to achieve patients' goals.
- Orient patients, family, and/or other appropriate parties to the purpose and procedures of the physical therapy evaluation and treatment. Provide appropriate patient/family education and teaching, under the supervision of a Therapist.
- Supervise therapy assistants and other aides in a collaborative manner.
- Develop and document a discharge plan when a patient has reached their goals, achieved maximum benefit from therapy, or does not desire to continue service. Provide appropriate follow-up resources, services, and training for the patient and family members as needed.
- Obtain and document all required and pertinent patient information, including precautions, orders, and initial plans of care.
- Meet requirements of third-party payers by including appropriate documentation following window periods and other insurance guidelines.
- Perform pain assessments and take appropriate action according to standard operating procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
- Physical Therapy Assistant certification from the North Dakota Board of Physical Therapy prior to start date.
- Physical Therapy Assistant certification from the Minnesota Board of Physical Therapy prior to start date.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record prior to start date.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 90 days of start date.
- MN Background Study clearance from the Minnesota Department of Human Services at start date.
