What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator - Foundry position at Aluminum Alloys?
Job Summary
The Estimator will be responsible for accurately assessing the cost of production of aluminum sand castings through all processes, including accounting for non-production, 3rd party operations and interacting with customers regarding scope of work being performed.
Essential Functions
- Interpret customer drawings/models for specifications to determine, in tandem with Engineering, Quality and Production, methods of manufacturing.
- Mitigate risk by accurately accounting for each step of the manufacturing process required for production
- Develop Bill of Materials (BoM) within ERP system with support from Excel spreadsheets for ‘other’ costs, as appropriate, to arrive at specific costs
- Work with Production Leaders and Shop Floor Employees for input, time studies and processes for both new and existing products, with an emphasis on significant estimate to actual deviations during/following production.
- Develop margin targets based on dynamic variables associated with methods of manufacturing, market conditions and internal metrics.
- Communicate with customers, with input from department heads, to deliver quotes and message pricing, nuances in production methods and/or to obtain clarification on unclear matters required to identify the scope of the work in question.
Skills or Experience Required
- Three (3) years minimum Estimation experience or 5 years minimum in foundry-specific operations with reasonably transferable knowledge
- Microsoft Excel – data compilation and analytics
- ERP/MRP systems
