What are the responsibilities and job description for the Program Aide position at Alzheimer's Family Center?
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Provides supportive services to the participants and the center under the direction and supervision of the Manager of Programs.
DUTIES:
- Provides personal care to participants, including minimal to maximum assistance with toileting, grooming, and eating.
- Provides supervision in the outside courtyard including meeting and greeting visitors and signing in and out participants.
- Assists with planning, facilitating, and co-facilitating group and individual activities under the direction of the Program/Activity Coordinator and/or other Activity Coordinators, as appropriate. Assists with both daily and special activities, for example, obtaining and setting up equipment, and interacting with participants.
- Interacts with participant in a manner (e.g. dementia specific communication and management techniques) appropriate to reduce behavioral symptoms (e.g. anxiety, wandering) and help participant feel safe.
- Direct and engage volunteers who support this position, provide on-going training and support to ensure quality service on the behalf of volunteers
- Assists with providing physical and occupational therapy exercise to participants, under the supervision of the Lead Registered Nurse.
- Responsible for carrying out the center’s nutrition program, under the supervision of the Program/Activity Coordinator and in cooperation with the Meal Coordinator and the Dietitian Consultant. Duties include assisting with meal preparation, service, and clean up, monitoring participants’ dietary restrictions, and maintaining a sanitary kitchen and dining area. Responsible for following appropriate procedures for food handling and dishwashing.
- Participates in maintaining a safe, healthful, clean, and orderly daycare environment.
- Attends staff meetings and in-service trainings as required.
- Maintains proper daily and end-of-the-month charting procedures for all services provided to participants. Ensures proper sign-off by supervising professional on all charting notations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of principles and techniques involved in working with physically and cognitively impaired older adults. Good communication skills; ability to follow verbal and written directions. Physically capable of lifting, transferring, and providing personal care to maximal-assist participants, and willing to learn new information, skills, and techniques in serving participants with dementia.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Prefer certified nursing assistant. She/he must have minimum of one-year experience in providing services to impaired older adults or other relevant experience.
