Amalgamated Bank seeks a dedicated Assistant Controller for Trust at Amalgamated Bank serves a pivotal role in ensuring the financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency of the bank's Trust operations. This position is designed to bridge the gap between the Trust Department and the broader financial management framework of the bank, ensuring that Trust activities and revenue are accurately reflected in financial statements and strategic decision making, including the budgeting process. The Assistant Controller within Trust will ensure that all fiduciary responsibilities are met with the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct. Other responsibilities include ensuring integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial statements and business projections, both revenue and expense; provide technical expertise on significant accounting issues; monitor and strengthen internal controls and related documentation; ensure policy compliance. This is a hybrid role reporting on-site to our NYC headquarters 3 days a week.

Essential Job Functions:
- Oversee the preparation and review of financial statements captions for trust operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the Trust Departments billing and revenue processes to ensure accurate business line reporting and projections.
- Develop and implement robust internal controls to safeguard trust assets and ensure the integrity of financial reporting for trust operations.
- Collaborate with the Trust Operations group to ensure timely and accurate processing of trust transactions, including income distributions, principal disbursements, and fee calculations.
- Monitor and analyze Trust financial performance, providing insights and recommendations to senior management.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including fiduciary responsibilities and trust-specific requirements.
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Participate in the annual audit processes, coordinating with external and internal auditors and addressing any findings or recommendations.
- Support the bank's commitment to social responsibility by integrating sustainable practices into trust operations and promoting ethical decision-making.
- Serve as liaison between trust and finance.
- Participate in ad-hoc projects as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification and MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in trust accounting, financial reporting, or a related field within the banking industry.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, regulatory requirements, and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing internal controls and process improvements.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software packages is desirable; Axiom preferred
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with senior management, auditors, and regulatory agencies.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated commitment to social responsibility and ethical banking practices.
Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base salary for this role is between $120,000.00 – $140,000.00. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferrable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
