Executive Director Amare
This role works with the Board of Directors as the seniormost Executive Officer for Amare, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing critical recovery support services to persons in our community with substance use disorders & their families.
Key Responsibilities
· Partner with the Board of Directors to effectuate an organization capable of realizing our mission. This includes:
o Designing a purposeful, resilient organization
o Identifying & evaluating future opportunities to take the appropriate steps forward consistent with current research and best practices
o Mobilizing the organization to be focused on delivery of services
o Partnering with key stakeholders internally & externally
o Tracking performance to enable a high-performing organization.
· Lead our organization to deliver with operational excellence for our peers including:
o Current core services such as recovery coaching, temporary accommodation support, bus fares & treatment center referrals.
o Core responsibilities such as grant administration, e.g., using funds consistent with grants & activity/impact reporting.
o Coaching & Investing in our staff to promote their own personal & professional development.
· Create an increasingly robust opportunity funnel of revenue generating resources, including Federal, State, and County grants, institutional & private donors, fundraising, and other sources. This includes:
o Growing & leveraging our Brand
o Conducting an evergreen “needs analysis” of our key capabilities
o Creating a roadmap that sequences our investments & changes initiatives
o Working with external partners more effectively
· Effectuating good governance as a non-profit organization, consistent with our Charter.
Ideal Candidate Qualities
· Mission-oriented, value-led leader who can thrive in a field still in its early development
· Significant professional experience leading or managing non-profit organizations
· 5 years of leadership responsibilities addressing substance abuse disorders; “lived experience” is highly desirable
· History of successfully delivering solutions in challenging circumstances
· Demonstrated mastery working with others to create alliances that deliver across organizational boundaries. Skilled at listening, engaging to influence, empowering.
· Proficiency working with technology solutions to reduce costs & improve outcomes
Strategic Imperatives
We are transitioning from a founder-led startup that has experienced rapid growth in the recovery space. As we move forward, we aim to build on this strong foundation to create a more resilient and scalable organization.
This role requires a person to be physically present in our office or other locations (i.e., our recovery centers) or with external partners almost exclusively. A significant portion of time will be devoted to directly & indirectly managing staff.
About Amare
We are a regional Recovery Community Organization (RCO). An RCO is a nonprofit organization led and governed by people in recovery, along with their families, friends, and allies. Amare’s focus is on peer-led recovery support services to help individuals achieve and sustain long-term recovery from substance use disorders. Amare provides services and support for individuals and families impacted by substance use disorders in Madison and St. Clair counties.
