This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Associate Degree Nursing Director who will be all-in on our mission and who will provide strategic leadership and oversight for the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program, ensuring academic excellence, regulatory compliance, and student success. This role collaborates with college leadership, faculty, and clinical partners to develop curriculum, manage resources, and enhance learning experiences. The Director recruits, supports, and evaluates faculty while fostering an innovative and student-centered nursing education environment. Additionally, this position oversees program accreditation, budgeting, and faculty workload, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and industry standards.
Qualifications
EDUCATION :
Required : Master's degree in nursing.
Preferred : Doctorate degree in nursing.
- Current and unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas.
EXPERIENCE :
Required : Two (2) years or more of teaching experience in a professional nursing educational program.
Preferred : More than five (5) years of teaching experience in a professional nursing educational program.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Guide the establishment of clear lines of authority, responsibility, interrelationships, and communication channels within the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program.Collaborate with the Dean of Nursing and college leadership to achieve strategic goals related to student enrollment, retention, and graduation.Promote the admission, retention, and successful completion of qualified students within the ADN Program.Identify programmatic needs for classroom, laboratory, and clinical space, as well as personnel and operating resources.Partner with the AC Simulation Center to ensure faculty receive training and actively utilize the center for instructional purposes.Coordinate with the Instructor of the Nursing Resource Center to schedule facility use and facilitate the procurement of lab equipment, instructional media, and technology.Prepare and manage the ADN Program budget in collaboration with the Dean of Nursing, ensuring fiscal responsibility and accountability.Advocate for evidence-based teaching methodologies, research-informed curriculum development, and innovative clinical instruction models.Ensure the implementation of a comprehensive and accessible system for ADN student and program recordkeeping.Engage with internal college departments, including Advising, Financial Aid, and the Registrar, to support ADN Program operations.Serve on assigned college committees and task forces, contributing to institutional initiatives.Chair the ADN Program Faculty Organization and Scholarship Committees while serving as an ex-officio member of all ADN Program committees.Collaborate with the ADN Program Advisory Committee and local professional organizations to enhance program outcomes and meet employer needs.Communicate emerging trends and current issues in nursing with faculty, staff, and the Dean of Nursing.Recruit and select qualified faculty and staff for the ADN Program.Guide the orientation and professional development of ADN faculty and staff.Conduct performance evaluations of ADN faculty and staff in accordance with college and division policies.Facilitate the ADN faculty rank and tenure process.Lead and participate in pinning and graduation ceremonies as ADN Program Director.Develop ADN class schedules for each academic term.Assign faculty to courses in collaboration with the Clinical Coordinator, ensuring alignment with program needs, faculty expertise, and workload equity.Oversee ADN faculty workload assignment (FWA) calculations and submission in compliance with college and division policies.Work with the ADN Assistant Director, Level Leads, and Clinical Coordinator to design and coordinate didactic and clinical learning experiences that align with program outcomes.Assist ADN Level Leads, the Clinical Coordinator, and the LVN Director in identifying and arranging clinical facilities and community resources for program courses.Maintain communication with the Clinical Coordinator and clinical partners to optimize student learning opportunities while ensuring patient safety.Partner with the Dean of Nursing to collect and analyze data from graduates, alumni, and communities of interest to assess and improve ADN program outcomes.Act as the ADN Program liaison with accrediting bodies, regulatory agencies, and professional / community organizations.Counsel ADN students on academic concerns and disciplinary matters as needed.Verify student completion of ADN program and graduation requirements.Provide didactic instruction to ADN students in accordance with Texas Board of Nursing regulations.Perform other duties as required.As an Amarillo College employee, seek knowledge of and pledge to actively engage in a culture of caring striving to serve students, peers and the community by embracing the AC Core Values : Wow, Family, Fun, Innovation, and Yes!Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Extensive knowledge of nursing education principles, evidence-based teaching methodologies, and curriculum development aligned with accreditation and regulatory requirements.In-depth understanding of clinical teaching strategies, patient care standards, and current best practices in nursing education.Comprehensive knowledge of the Texas Board of Nursing (BON), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and other accrediting and approving agency standards.Familiarity with academic policies, faculty workload models, student enrollment processes, and institutional governance structures within a college setting.Understanding of budget preparation, fiscal accountability, and efficient resource allocation for program sustainability.Awareness of healthcare industry trends, workforce needs, and strategies for building partnerships with clinical and community stakeholders.Ability to lead faculty and staff in achieving program goals, aligning efforts with institutional priorities, and making data-driven decisions.Strong verbal and written communication skills to engage with faculty, students, administrators, and external stakeholders effectively.Expertise in mentoring faculty, conducting performance evaluations, and facilitating professional growth opportunities.Analytical ability to address program challenges, resolve conflicts, and implement effective solutions.Ability to lead the continuous improvement of the ADN Program through strategic planning and innovative teaching methodologies.Capacity to interpret and apply nursing education regulations, ensuring ongoing compliance with state and national standards.Ability to balance administrative duties, faculty oversight, student engagement, and external partnerships effectively.Ability to cultivate relationships with hospitals, clinics, and community organizations to enhance student learning opportunities.Capacity to motivate and empower faculty and staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing academic team.Salary : Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.
Pay grade 14 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and / or maneuver office supplies as needed.
Working Conditions : Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)
Work Environment : This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
