What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coordinator, Student Support Services position at Amarillo ISD?
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
- Direct and lead the district behavioral multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) programs, including behavior interventions (MTSS) and Positive Behavior Support programs (PBIS) programs. Support the superintendent, deputy superintendent, and assistant superintendents with assigned administrative duties in support of established district goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education
- Master’s degree
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
- Valid principal certificate Texas mid-management or other appropriate Texas administrator certificate preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of the behavioral multi-tiered systems of support MTSS processes
- Experience with evidenced-based practices, progress monitoring, data-based decision-making, fidelity implementation, and research-based behavioral systems at Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III
- Knowledge of strategies in working with students with disabilities and underrepresented groups
- Expertise in professional development for staff
- Ability to interpret data to support the development of Tier II and Tier III interventions for behavior needs
- Ability to lead campus leadership through campus improvement plan development
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to lead and motivate other staff members
- Ability to manage crisis situations
Work Conditions:
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including personal computer and peripherals
- Posture: Prolonged sitting, standing, walking, occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
- Motion: Repetitive hand motions including prolonged keyboarding & use of mouse; occasional reaching

- Experience:
- Three years successful classroom teaching experience
- Experience as an administrator preferred
- Experience with MTSS processes
- Experience creating and delivering staff development
- Experience in providing parent training
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Create, design, and implement the District’s policies and procedures that address student behavior needs for overall success.
- Direct the implementation, professional development, and evaluation of MTSS and intervention strategies.
- Evaluate MTSS data collection and interpretation and lead the development of a responsive action plan(s).
- Monitors the effectiveness and the implementation of both Tier II and Tier III interventions programs and systems.
- Research and evaluate interventions to implement for Tier II and Tier III.
- Communicate and collaborate with principals, assistant superintendents, and parents
- concerning positive behavior supports.
- Recruit, screen, interview, and hire prospective personnel.
- Oversee the implementation of State compulsory attendance laws.
- Oversee the development of campus improvement plans
- Develops and coordinates disciplinary hearings
- Assists with the revision of the student code of conduct and handbook.
- Coordinates PEIMS discipline data entry and administrator professional development
- Serves as liaison on various committees.
- Respond to parent concerns as appropriate.
- Prepares data as requested by the superintendent
- Other duties as assigned.
