What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Engineer, Data Center Operations position at Amazon Data Services, Inc.?
Amazon is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Chief Engineer to join our Data Center Engineering Operations Team. This dedicated group ensures the critical physical infrastructure supporting Amazon Web Services operates with 100% availability, all while providing exemplary customer service to all teams and stakeholders within our data centers.
The Chief Engineer (CE) will be responsible for the optimal operation of all electrical, mechanical, and fire / life safety equipment within the data center. This role involves planned preventative maintenance, daily corrective work, and rapid emergency response to unexpected equipment issues. Acting as an expert technical resource, the CE will report to the Data Center Facility Manager and collaborate closely with Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) and third-party vendors. Additionally, the CE will manage small to medium-impact projects from start to finish, collaborating with external support groups including engineering, automation, processing, and finance. Responsibilities include creating and delivering key milestones, obtaining and tracking quotes for necessary expenses, and documenting project outcomes for future implementation in other facilities. By driving innovation and enhancing resiliency, the CE will also focus on reducing operational costs.
The CE will guide, train, and support EOTs in their hands-on troubleshooting and operations of various equipment, such as stand-by diesel generators, switchgear, UPS systems, PDUs, AHUs, chillers, and building automation systems.
This technical leadership role requires a 24 / 7 presence to support the engineering operations technicians on-site as well as respond to site-specific needs.
Candidates must hold an active US Government Top Secret security clearance.
