Position Overview

The Director of Student Affairs is responsible for overseeing a range of student services and programs that foster student engagement, academic success, and personal development. This position plays a key role in enhancing student experiences, coordinating academic advising, managing disability services, facilitating externship placements, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. The Director will collaborate with various campus departments to support students’ academic and career goals, while promoting a positive and inclusive campus environment. The Director plays a vital role in providing quality programs and services that enhances access and promotes academic, career, and personal success for all students. This role offers the opportunity to positively impact student success and contribute to the overall mission of the college.

Key Responsibilities

  • Student support
  • Provides excellent customer service through proactive and timely outreach, referrals, and interventions within the student population through a variety of communication methods
  • Provide academic advising to students, ensuring they are informed about program requirements, academic standing, and career development opportunities.
  • Guide students through the externship process, working closely with academic departments to facilitate placements and track placement outcomes and student completion hours.
  • Support students in developing key skills, including time management, study techniques, note taking, test taking strategies, and career development (e.g., resume writing, interview preparation).
  • Teach a one credit hour Foundations course for freshmen (first year experience course) each fall
  • Regularly meet with student groups to build rapport and assist with understanding policies and academic requirements.
  • Provide individualized support to students in navigating academic and personal challenges; identify students in crisis and provide support and resources.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for urgent or emergency student issues.
  • Develop and oversee programs and services that promote student engagement, retention, and success in academic, professional, and personal growth.
  • Oversee the delivery of accommodations for students with disabilities, ensuring equal access to reasonable accommodations
  • Manage student programs (peer note-taking, honor council, tutoring), providing necessary resources and support to students
  • Counsel students with student grievances and report to the appropriate staff.
  • Plan and organize student centered initiatives, programs, or events that create student engagement and foster the ACBA community (e.g. awards dinners, graduate receptions, of campus programs, on campus student functions, campus tours and visits as needed)
  • Send reminder emails to students regarding important academic opportunities and events
  • Speak at new student orientation to explain accommodations, advising, student services, and other relevant information
  • Faculty/staff/external support
  • Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, and administration, facilitating clear communication and resolving any student-related issues or concerns to assure the integrity of college processes and procedures
  • Serves as a resource to the entire college wide community, including faculty, in delivering reasonable accommodations required by law
  • Work closely with faculty to provide guidance on strategies for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
  • Attends faculty meetings and committee meetings as needed
  • Correspond with marketing/PR team/outside entities as needed to supply photographs of student work or to connect them with students for content creation
  • Record keeping and compliance
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), as well as internal policies and accreditation standards.
  • Enforce relevant guidelines regarding academic integrity, student conduct, and disability services.
  • Effectively administers disability services paperwork through Blackbaud
  • Maintain accurate records of student advising, externship placements, and graduate employment outcomes
  • Implement and manage digital tools (e.g., Blackbaud) to streamline administrative tasks and enhance service delivery.
  • Continuously assess and refine processes to improve operational efficiency and the student experience.
  • Gain working knowledge of and ensures adherence and compliance to all internal and external regulations, department policies and ACCSC Standards of Accreditation
  • Files, scans documents, operates office equipment, identifies and suggests areas for process improvement, and is able to work independently and professionally

Qualifications

  • A master’s degree in counseling, social work, higher education or related field
  • Proven experience in student affairs, academic advising, or a related area
  • Strong knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), disability services regulations, and best practices for student engagement.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
