The Town of Kiawah Island seeks an experienced Communications and Public Affairs Director to serve as a bridge between the Town government and its stakeholders while fostering meaningful engagement with residents, property owners, and visitors. This leadership position oversees a talented team and includes direct supervision of the Communication Specialist, Arts and Cultural Events Manager and Video Production Specialist.
The Communications and Public Affairs Director will develop and implement comprehensive community engagement strategies aligned with the Town's vision. As the primary liaison for public engagement and community relations, the Director will manage strategic communications, media relations, community events, arts and cultural programs, and marketing campaigns that strengthen the Town's connection with its community. The Director will coordinate closely with the Mayor and Town Council to ensure effective public communication across all initiatives.
This position demands exceptional communication and strategic thinking abilities, complemented by demonstrated experience in community engagement and public affairs. The Director will build and maintain strong relationships with residents, community organizations, property owners' associations, and local businesses to promote active civic participation. Working with their team, they will oversee the production and streaming of Town Council meetings, podcast events, and other municipal meetings while ensuring proficiency with the CodeRed system.
The successful candidate will bring strong leadership skills and a collaborative approach to serving as the Town's primary representative in public affairs. They will guide their team in developing and distributing comprehensive communications that keep all stakeholders informed and engaged in Town initiatives and activities. The role requires schedule flexibility, including some weekend and evening hours to accommodate community needs and events.
