What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Estimator for Wastewater Construction position at American Contracting and Environmental Services?
ACE is adding an experienced and detail-oriented Chief Estimator to lead our estimating team in pursuit of construction projects on water and wastewater treatment plants. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Estimating, the Chief Estimator will be responsible for overseeing bid preparation, cost analysis, and risk assessment while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and competitiveness in all project estimates. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of estimating methodologies, bid strategies, and compliance regulations, as well as strong leadership capabilities to develop and manage a high-performing estimating team.
As Chief Estimator, you will lead and direct the estimating team in preparing accurate and competitive bids for water and wastewater treatment plant construction projects. Overseeing the entire estimating process, you will ensure precision in quantity takeoffs, subcontractor evaluations, and cost assessments while maintaining compliance with all contractual obligations. Working closely with senior management, you will shape bid strategies, lead meetings, identify opportunities, establish optimal profit margins and make final preparations for bid packages.
Your role will also involve efficiently managing bid team resources, resolving conflicts, and maintaining workflow continuity. Additionally, you will conduct risk analyses, develop mitigation strategies, and leverage competitive advantages to enhance the company’s bidding success.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating (or building) construction projects on water and wastewater treatment plants
- Expertise in bid methods, cost tracking, and risk management.
- Strong knowledge of DBE compliance regulations.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
