Job Summary
Responsible for performing intermediate level geotechnical drilling work and related activities associated with the maintenance and operation of Company drilling equipment.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1) Assist in performance of soil drilling, rock coring, and sampling per specifications, drawings, or surveys provided by others.
2) Maintain drilling and boring logs, classify and label samples in accordance with Unified Soil Classification System.
3) Prepare field samples and ship to the Civil Engineering Laboratory or to Consultants as required.
4) Operate and maintain the drilling rigs and associated drilling equipment.
5) Take samples for each boring location as specified.
6) Assist in performance of the installation of piezometers, inclinometers, and observation / monitoring wells.
7) Perform minor field maintenance on drill rigs and drilling equipment. Make recommendations regarding replacement or refurbishing of drilling equipment/tooling.
8) Assist in performance of Coal Pile Inventories (CPI). Process includes the drilling and sampling of coal piles, weighing and recording of retrieved samples, and data entry and manipulation within the Civil Lab CPI database.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education requirements are listed below: High School diploma or GED
Work Experience requirement listed below: 2 years drilling and/or construction experience
Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below: Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's license within 6 months as required by the Federal Department of Transportation with tanker endorsement
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must be available to work overtime, call-out overtime and shift work, as required. Travel requirements are expected > 50 % of the time Physical demand level is Heavy and requirements details are listed below:
1) Travel 90% of the time throughout AEP service territory (within 11 states)
2) Overnight Travel
3) Overtime required as needed
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Include but not limited to following:
1) Exposure to environmental conditions such as weather, hazardous conditions and uneven terrain
2) Ability to operate vehicles, heavy equipment and mechanized devices
3) Occasional lift up to 75 pounds
