Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for the consistency of the data in the GIS. Monitor data entry for consistency and accuracy and coordinate updates of applicable GIS.Develop, assemble, edit and revise maps and map products using GIS cartographic concepts, principles and processes for various groups throughout the AEP organization.
Provide primary software maintenance including upgrades, patches, and database model changes.Provide primary support to GIS users. Support includes both a technical understanding of the application and a functional understanding of the business the application supports.
Provide internet and web based support for AEP's on-line, web-based GIS.Resolve business unit complaints with software and respond to suggestions for improvements and enhancements.Work with technical staff to understand problems with software and resolve them.Train employees in data entry, data manipulation, extraction of information from database, and GIS software applications.
Assist in development of software user manuals.Assure that the specific department's GIS interfaces with other corporate systems.
Provide leadership by initiating action and needed change; seeking opportunities to introduce innovation while maintaining operating efficiencies of the GIS system.
Integrates geographic, cartographic, remote sensing, and GPS concepts and principals in resource data management and displays them using windows-based systems, computers, global positioning systems and computer software that include cartographic data translation software.
Coordinates and supports the integration of global positioning system (GPS) data with the GIS, data research and purchasingAssists in developing GIS standards with regards to symbology, processes' and incorporates those standards within the GIS organization.Assists in developing strategies, processes and procedures for the further refinement and advancement of the GIS platform within the organization.
Meets and work with customers to support project development and needs using the GIS platform.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor's degree in GIS, Computer Science, Geography, Civil Engineering, Drafting or related field; or Associate's degree in related field of study and 2 years of relevant work experience; or High School diploma/GED and four years of relevant work experience.
Experience: In addition to any experience required above, 5 years of GIS related work experience is required.
License(s)/Certification(s): Valid state driver's license.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Expertise in GIS foundation principals and methods, ability to identify or develop solutions to a variety of projects.
Thorough understanding of data management principals, including database design, data archiving protocols, metadata creation, and overall data organization.Ability to establish cartographic designs. Providing project or task level quality control oversight.
Experience with web-based mapping (html, Java etc).Understanding with GPS receivers and software to collect data.
Proficiency in database development concepts (Oracle or SQL Server).Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel. Experience with Access and other Office applications.
Excellent written and verbal communication.Demonstrate ability to work with others in supplying information and seeking assistance as necessary.Demonstrate willingness and capabilities to assume leadership roles.

$72,380.00-90,474.50 USD
