The Accounting Analyst performs professional financial reporting, analysis and/or accounting work supporting U.S. Statutory-basis Financial Reporting.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Prepares and files quarterly and annual statutory-basis financial statements, MD&A and related exhibits. The incumbent is also responsible for performing the U.S. statutory-basis accounting for certain balances, including review of supporting analysis and preparing or reviewing journal entries.

Education And/Or Experience
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year credited college or university in accounting, finance or related field of study; plus three (3) years of progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Insurance or annuity experience a plus.

- Assists with quarterly financial statement close process across the Company.
- Prepares and reviews various reconciliations as part of quarterly close process.
- Prepares and reviews key financial statement analysis files as part of quarterly close process.
- Prepares, supports and/or reviews including:
- Quarterly/annual statutory financial statement and supplement filings.
- Statutory audited financial statements.
- Quarterly RBC computations.
- Intercompany reporting and settlements.
- Other general accounting support
- Other compliance reports and related payments.
- Works directly with external auditors on various reviews and audits.
- Contributes to process improvement initiatives for financial statement close process.
- Contributes to automation, continuous improvement and other projects.
- Maintains and/or improves existing reporting processes and controls.
- Creates standardized and ad-hoc reports.
- Performs other related work as assigned.

Education And/Or Experience

Financial Reporting
- Experience working with annual statement software.
- Enterprise ledger system experience, e.g., SAP
- Strong general accounting knowledge.
- Knowledge of the life and annuity insurance industry, including products issued, operating activities performed across the entity, and the regulatory environment.
- Broad understanding of financial statement accounts and internal controls of a life and annuity company, including investment and actuarial balances.
- Ability to apply prior knowledge and experience working in various financial systems.
- Strong Microsoft Office suite proficiency including Excel.
- Strong attention to numeric and other detail; ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply to practical situations.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to successfully handle pressure, prioritize work and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
