We advocate for humane immigration policies and work to eliminate unjust immigration practices. Our work centers on educating and organizing immigrants, allies and faith leaders in support of human rights for all people in the belief that a diversity of voices grow and strengthen the movement for immigrant justice.
Summary Of Principal Responsibilities
The Colorado Area Program Coordinator works under the supervision of the Program Co-Directors and is responsible for supporting the implementation of the Colorado Immigrant Rights Program of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) in Denver, Colorado. The Program Coordinator’s primary role is to provide support for the Not One More Deportation/Ni Una Más Deportación (N1M) leadership team, working with them to develop work plans to implement their priorities and meaningfully engage the members. The Program Coordinator supports N1M member leaders in resource navigation in Colorado and the Denver Metro area, orients them to the legal system and readies them to advocate for themselves and/or their loved ones to fight deportation. This positions members to be bridged into active membership and organizing, develop and grow in their leadership and skill within N1M, AFSC Colorado and beyond.
This position also helps members surface and negotiate differences and conflicts and build unity on their collective priorities as well as troubleshoot barriers using trauma aware, healing and cultural organizing practices. The Program Coordinator works in close collaboration with staff, interns, volunteers, members and other stakeholders to fulfill AFSC’s organizational goals and local program plan.

Program
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Implement N1M’s leadership team priorities and workplan.
- Provide support to and coordination of the N1M membership. Maintain contact lists, WhatsApp or other text-based communication channels, and other relevant organizing channels.
- Recruit, orient, and onboard new N1M members.
- Coordinate logistics and support for monthly N1M leadership team meetings, monthly N1M membership meetings, and quarterly joint meetings of N1M with Coloradoans for Immigrant Rights (CFIR) members.
- Support the leadership development of N1M leaders – help members identify their areas of growth, connect them to resources and training to get those skills, and support them in identifying and pursuing opportunities to practice, stretch and grow into those areas of leadership.
- Support members in developing testimony and analysis. Collect and compile their voice and stories. Connect members to opportunities to speak on a multitude of platforms (e.g. social media, podcasts, meetings with elected officials, traditional press, community groups etc.)
- Support members to be well-informed and educated about AFSC values, program priorities, and current events impacting immigrants, so that they are prepared to provide the analysis and direction for staff and members to implement N1M priorities.
- Help connect N1M leaders and members with local, state, and federal decision makers, and support members to learn, use and teach advocacy skills.
- Conduct occasional presentations, workshops and/or other public speaking opportunities about the work of AFSC and N1M, with the orientation of prioritizing and preparing N1M leaders and members to be the primary presenters and public speakers about N1M and its priorities.
- Assist N1M leaders in establishing and maintaining positive relationships with coalition partners. Help N1M and coalition partners define clear roles, communication agreements, and action plans, and support N1M members in carrying out coalition work.
- Represent AFSC and participate in meetings, planning, and execution of collaborative work with other immigrant rights organizations that intersect with Not1More’s priorities.
- Support deportation defense actions initiated by N1M leaders and members as appropriate.
- Support with logistics and coordination of events and campaign actions related to Not1More priorities (e.g. Know Your Rights/Family Preparedness workshops, Shut Down GEO campaign actions, quarterly vigils, etc.)
- Help connect local N1M leaders to the immigrant rights movement statewide and nationally.
- Administration:
- Carry out administrative tasks and duties related to the position including data tracking, program reporting, financial tracking and reporting, and budgeting.
- Support program planning, strategy development, monitoring, documentation, and evaluation for the program.
- Assist other program staff with communications efforts as needed.
- Assist with fundraising efforts for the program, including grant applications, fundraising appeals, and community engagement.
- Participate in the life of the West Region by attending regional staff and committee meetings and occasional retreats.
- Participate, where appropriate, in AFSC-related collaborative projects and campaigns, including in the Just Migration Hub.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum Education Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience.
- Minimum Experience Required: A minimum of two years of direct organizing experience, either in immigrant rights or another economic or social justice issue (e.g. creating art or social media campaigns, grassroots fundraising, mutual aid projects, door knocking, phone banking, coordinating meetings with elected officials, planning direct actions like rallies or marches).
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Commitment to the faith-based principles and guidelines that define the work of AFSC, including a commitment to nonviolence, equality and anti-oppression work and a belief in the intrinsic worth of every individual.
- Ability to connect with diverse audiences and to influence situations using tact and diplomacy.
- Experience working with people who’ve experienced trauma; ability to set healthy boundaries.
- Strong interpersonal skills with knowledge of and experience in using consultative, committee-led decision-making processes.
- Ability to work well under pressure and adapt easily to changing situations and priorities.
- Willingness to share administrative duties.
- Willingness to work a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Access to reliable, timely transportation and willingness to travel by car and airplane.
- Understanding of and commitment to the principles, concerns, and considerations of AFSC with regard to issues of race, class, nationality, religion, age, gender and sexual orientation, and disabilities.

- Knowledge of and/or experience with immigration issues in the US.
