Description
AGA is seeking an intern to join the AGA State Affairs team as we continue to advocate on behalf of our members and educate policymakers nationwide on the crucial role that natural gas utilities have in their communities.
The State Affairs intern will have ample opportunities to engage as a team member at AGA. The intern will gain valuable experience in state legislatures, state executive branch offices, state utility regulators, local governments, and more. Some activities the intern will assist the AGA State Affairs team with include, but are not limited to, updating tracking documents on regulations and decisions, organization of relevant news articles and updates, assisting with nationwide stakeholder engagement, dissemination of material information with the State Affairs Committee, and special projects assigned by AGA State Affairs team members.
The State Affairs intern will also have opportunities to gain experience with the greater Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team at AGA. The GAPP team covers a wide portfolio of issues from environmental policy, infrastructure, and tax to cybersecurity at all levels of government. The intern may be tasked to assist the greater GAPP team with programming and special projects.
AGA professional staff provide mentoring, educational offerings, and assistance with professional development skills.
Requirements
Successful candidates will be excellent writers and researchers, have a basic understanding of and possess an interest in state and local governments, and be available during traditional work hours to support the work of the team in the office and AGA team members engaged nationwide. Relevant backgrounds include political science, economics, history, public administration, public policy, and/or environmental sciences.
