We currently have an opening at our King of Prussia, Pennsylvania branch office for one full-time Soils Laboratory Technician to add to our already well-established team. The position involves performing laboratory testing on construction materials for various geotechnical design transportation projects, primarily in Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia. Tasks will involve:
- Laboratory Activities: Perform laboratory testing on construction materials for various projects under the supervision of senior technicians and other lab staff
- Assist with tasks to maintain laboratory organization and cleanliness in compliance with Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) initiatives to maintain accreditation compliance
- Calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment following the manufacturer’s schedule and records
- Conduct routine laboratory tests for soils including Atterberg limits, gradation analyses, swell testing, moisture content testing, unconfined compressive strength testing, standard and modified proctor testing, and begin learning how to visually classify soils.
- Perform calculations and data reduction based on test results
- Demonstrate competency of testing methods by documenting results accurately
- Perform administrative duties as requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Previous experience in Geotechnical soil laboratory testing is required.
- Bachelors of Science in Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, or similar earth science related field.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
- Willing to obtain knowledge of laboratory equipment, testing methods, and ASTM laboratory standards
- Familiarity with Geosystems software or similar
- Must have valid driver's license and insurance
- Must have ability to work on-site
- Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing)
- Ability to work effectively with peers and supervisors
Responsibilities:
- Perform specific tasks associated with conducting laboratory testing on construction materials for various projects under the supervision of senior staff
- Conduct laboratory tests for soils including Atterberg limits, gradation analyses, moisture content testing, unconfined compressive strength testing, standard and modified proctor testing, and California Bearing Ratio
- Perform calculations and data reduction based on test results; Demonstrate competency of testing methods by documenting results accurately; Perform administrative duties as requested
- Laboratory Safety and Compliance: Conduct routine laboratory tests using various methodologies and testing equipment following industry standards and compliance; Assist with tasks to maintain laboratory organization and cleanliness in compliance with Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) initiatives to maintain accreditation compliance; Tasks may include calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment following the manufacturer’s schedule and records; Notify supervisor of broken or missing equipment as needed
