POSITION SUMMARY
The primary responsibilities of the Safety Manager are to ensure that all safety training and compliance expectations are being met at the Georgetown Plant. The Safety Manager is responsible for compliance with OSHA regulations at the plant. This position is responsible for maintaining safe and healthy working conditions at all times. This position ensures that all staff safety needs are met in a timely fashion. The Safety Manager is responsible for the administration of and adherence to company and plant safety policies. This position is to proactively ensure that the plant staff is properly trained to complete the required tasks in a safe manner. The Safety Manager will conduct themself in a professional manor at all times, treating all employees with dignity and respect, and acting as a role model and mentor for all employees under their direct or indirect supervision. The Safety Manager is to keep the Plant Manager informed of any significant safety issues or changes in policies or regulations.
REGULAR DUTIES
- Develop and maintain an effective and well-organized safety program that involves all employees.
- Ensure the safety program meets all requirements of OSHA and American Gypsum.
- Administer and coordinate safety policies with other plants and corporate office as needed.
- Ensures personnel practices follow applicable laws and regulations.
- Assists managers in hazard resolution as necessary.
- Maintain employee safety training records.
- Enter, interpret, and utilize safety data in the online company safety database to proactively improve plant safety and reduce incident rates.
- Network with safety counterparts at other plants to work through relatable issues and implement best practices.
- Track and communicate safety trends and suggestions via safety reporting software.
- Conduct safety committee meetings, inspections, and audits of all plant facilities and processes to ensure safe operations.
- Maintain the written safety program for OSHA compliance and ensures all aspects of the written safety program are being followed.
- Maintain a current online Safety Data Sheets (SDS) library on all products in the plant.
- Plan, coordinate, and conduct effective monthly safety meetings for the plant, including creating and updating training materials to keep employees engaged.
- Complete new hire safety orientation with each new employee and follow up regularly with new hires after orientation to make sure they understand plant safety practices.
- Properly document and file all the plant safety activities.
- Attend department safety huddles weekly and spend significant time on the floor observing employee operations and discussing safety with the employees.
- Assist with the investigation and diagnosis of plant accidents and/or safety issues.
- Recommend courses of action to the appropriate department head and implement appropriate and approved corrective measures, and follow-up to ensure completion.
- Be available for transport of injured employees to clinic and or hospitable during plant operations as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Working knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.
- Ability to make presentations and conduct training sessions for all levels of plant and corporate personnel.
- Strong communications skills and a professional demeanor.
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Must be able to work in an environment with minimal supervision.

- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Occasional travel in a personal or company vehicle is required.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
- Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
GEORGETOWN PLANT SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Audit insurance of all vendors and contractors.
- Conduct and document all onsite contractor safety training.
- Hold monthly supervisor safety meetings to refresh plant trainers before they train their respective crews.
- Attend safety meetings in each department at least weekly to identify areas of excellence and opportunities to improve safety.
- Maintain plant provided CPR/AED and first aid training certifications.
- Plan and execute audits and testing including hearing, industrial hygiene, and others as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is performed mainly in the manufacturing plant and plant office.
- Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM or similar if approved by the Plant Manager.
- Additional hours are required as necessary.
- Must be available for call-ins to assist with safety or personnel issues.

Experience
Required- Bachelor’s degree in safety with at least two years of safety management experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in another field and 5 years of safety management experience in a manufacturing environment.
