We are looking for a CAD Design & Development Engineer who will have the opportunity to be responsible for creating and developing detailed 3-D models, technical drawings, and specifications for motors, motion control systems, and related components that are within the project scope for American Motion Systems (AMS) clients. On the development side, you can work on hands-on projects to test and develop fits, systems, environmental conditions, design features, etc. If you are precise with an eye for intricate detail and would like to develop new design features, please keep reading.

ANALYTICAL WITH A PASSION FOR TECHNOLOGY. You enjoy working with technology daily, reviewing and validating all necessary design components, measurements, and specifications according to client specifications and AMS’ quality standards.
A QUICK THINKER WITH EXCEPTIONAL MEMORY. You recall relevant design information and make critical decisions to ensure CAD designs are meeting client specifications as well as AMS standards, thus leading to efficient and accurate design iterations.
ORGANIZED WITH STRONG ATTENTION TO DETAIL. You pay close attention to all details regarding client specifications and ensure that project timelines are met, designs are well-structured, and design revisions are efficiently rectified.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:
Within the first 30-60 days and ongoing:
● Shadows a Manufacturing Technician to learn how to build an AMS motor from beginning to completion, partners with the President to get set up on IT systems, and shadows and observes other CAD Design Engineers to gain insights into AMS’ design processes and workflows.
● Attends weekly staff meetings and Engineering meetings to discuss the ECR system that is being developed and to monitor the number of projects in the queue. Meets with the President for a weekly 1:1 to discuss various aspects of their work, performance feedback, and any concerns or questions.
● By 30 days, creates a simple CAD design project, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT) callouts, creates a fixture for 3D print and fabrication, and cleans up old designs and reformats files. Begin developing templates to improve workflow.
● By 60 days, independently knows all the components listed in the Bill of Materials (BOM), and every model number, part number, and nomenclature for precise identification and organization of design components.
3 months and ongoing:
● Manages customer projects independently especially those that can be ported over from key suppliers and creates a sample design according to customer’s request.
● Assists in the development of a new Engineering Change Request (ECR) with the Engineering team and discusses implementation of a new ECR.
● Visits suppliers to understand the manufacturing processes and communicates to obtain pricing of the certain parts needed.
● Takes on one development project.
6-12 months and going:
● Takes on customer requests independently with a preferred 24-hour turnaround time for simple design requests, while more complex designs may take 3-5 days based on the project’s complexity.
● Learns motor manufacturing processes on motor design and experiments on various design aspects, and begins training to become an Administrator of CAD system.
● Partners with a Senior Design Engineer to create a brand-new product from scratch.
● Meets with the President for an annual performance review to discuss the potential to develop into a future leader of AMS. Ie. Supervisor, CAD Manager, Director, Chief Engineer etc. through continuous learning, curiosity, expertise in design, leadership skills, and contributions to AMS.
EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
✔ 3 years’ experience in a CAD Design Engineer position or similar role required
✔ 1 year working experience within a component manufacturing environment or related industry such
as medical, aerospace, or machining required
✔ Auto CAD Certificate or equivalent coursework required
✔ Proven knowledge in the different machining techniques (i.e., turning, drilling, milling, shaping, etc.) required
✔ Experience using tools such as micrometers, calipers, etc. with proven knowledge of the difference between each tool required
✔ Strong communication skills with the ability to summarize and present information in a clear, concise and accurate written and verbal format required
✔ Proficiency with various office equipment, computers and various programs including MS Office 365 and Syteline ERP (or similar) highly preferred
✔ Ability to produce valid green card or citizenship documentation required
✔ Ability to pass a background check with no criminal record required

$90K to $130K base pending experience
