What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Actuary I position at American National?
We are seeking an experienced (5 years) annuity actuary around the Associate II level to join our team, at our League City, TX location. In this position, you will support our model development team on the annuity side. If you are an ASA actively pursuing an FSA, you would be eligible for our robust and supportive Actuarial Student Program.
The responsibilities of this position primarily involve performing and communicating complex actuarial analyses such as modeling, data analysis, and other tasks as assigned.

What You'll Do
- Support implementation of the latest modeling standards in Moody’s AXIS, such as VM-22, for annuity products (FDA, FIA, SPIA, PRT, VA)
- Communicate and document model design choices
- Adhere to the company’s model design standards and change management processes
- Work closely with valuation, quality assurance, and assumption setting teams to ensure all stakeholder’s needs are met
- A bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field with a strong mathematical background is required.
- Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation obtained with Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) expected within a couple years, or currently holds the FSA designation
- At least five years of actuarial experience at a performance level of Meets Expectations, or better, with at least three years of actuarial model development of annuity lines of business is required
- Strong communication and technical writing skills
- 1 years of experience working on VM-21 reporting
- 1 years of experience of programming with R, Python, VBA, SQL or related programs
