Overview

The program manager provides support to the Center for Public Health Policy to advance the work of health equity, racial equity and health justice and partnership initiatives. This position will have responsibility for ensuring project deliverables and workplans are met as well as supporting the activities of the Center.

 

This is a grant-funded position through July 31, 2025, with possibility of extension.

Responsibilities

Assist Director, Center for Public Health Policy with oversight of grant operational plans and budgets, coordinating and communicating with funders, submitting required reports, overseeing evaluation processes, and entering and managing related consultant and sub-grant contracts. Lead and manage projects centered on advancing health equity at multiple intersections including (but not limited to) race, ethnicity, gender and disability. Support communications activities, including social media, webinars, and website maintenance. Develop and disseminate written materials and products to advance APHA’s health equity work. Monitoring and analyze state and local actions to advance health equity and justice. Collaborate with internal departments to integrate health equity principles across association-wide efforts. Develop and manage relationships with members and external partners. Represent APHA on external partnerships. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The program manager is committed to equity and justice, embodies the values of collegiality, respect, inclusion, and diversity and brings the following qualifications: A minimum of three years of relevant working experience in the public health, housing, education, or employment sectors. Master’s in public health, public policy, or other related field preferred (additional experience can substitute for degree). Project management experience, including managing complex relationships and processes. Grant and budget management experience. Experience applying principles of justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in project planning and implementation. Understanding of health, income, racial and place-based inequities and related current dialogue at the national, state and local levels. Excellent writing and organizational skills. Ability to balance multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, while closely tracking and managing various project activities, timelines, and deliverables. Demonstrated experience developing educational resources on health equity or a related topic. Excellent relationship and communication skills such as listening, building trust, empathizing, developing rapport, and both giving and receiving constructive criticism. Ability to work well in a highly collaborative, team-based environment. Travel to the Annual Meeting is required with other occasional travel possible.

 

Position is based in downtown DC near several metro stations.  Hybrid work environment.

 

Hours: 35 hours a week, full-time, Monday - Friday (daytime).  Number of openings: 1.

SALARY RANGE:   Mid to high 70’s (salary commensurate with experience and job role). APHA offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits.
