- This is a working position. The Fabrication Cell Lead is responsible for completing the Welder and/or Finisher position work responsibilities assigned.
- Analyzes work orders to estimate worker hours and create schedules that meet both internal and external needs.
- Computes amounts of stock and supplies required for operations, based on production schedules, and requisitions materials for purchasing.
- Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
- Directs or moves pipe to appropriate staging area.
- Interfaces with supervisors and managers to ensure customer deadlines are met.
- Inspects and measures parts and products to verify conformance to specifications.
- Directs workers in adjusting pipe and welding equipment to fabricate products to meet standards.
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Develops, recommends, and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
- Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
- Maintains time and production records.
Performs other tasks as instructed by supervision
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES: In addition to completing individual Welder and/or Finisher work assigned, the Fabrication Cell Lead directs the activities of 5-10 employees in the Fabrication area. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, mission, vision, core values and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes recommendations regarding hiring, termination and corrective actions with department manager making the final decision.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED and two to four years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before managers or groups of employees. Ability to read, understand and interpret plant drawings.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute ratio and percent and to interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: Knowledge of spreadsheet software and word processing software required. This position will interact with the Division business system or ERP, JD Edwards. Will also spend significant amounts of time in Excel.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: ASME, AWWA or AWS certification(s) preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal English.
Other Qualifications: Ability to train and instruct Level I, II and III fitters/welders when required, according to prints, drawings, specifications.
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
